House Is Home featuring DeepCitySoul & DJ Morais hosted by Craig Stewart
DJ Morais Bio:
The early days...
At an early age I was brought up on music. Born in Wolverhampton, and to parents of west Indian origin, there was always had music playing the house. My earliest memories of music that I liked were from the funk scene in the late 70’s. Believe it or not being only 8-9 at the time I was playing tracks from Earth Wind and Fire, Rick James, The Jackson Five, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder to name but a few on a vinyl deck as well as watching re-runs of the American show Soul Train. My musical journey took me on the path of Disco & Rare Groove movements and early house. I used to remember going to old market stalls and the local independent record shop, buy the latest track and crate-digg, and build up my record collection.
Summer of love 89 and for the next 12 years I was an avid house follower. From the old raves of World Party & Weekend World as well as the cult clubs such as Shelley’s, Hacienda, Quest, Ministry of Sound, Cream, etc I was pretty out every week and enjoying the house music scene.
Latter days....
My djing career is 9 years and counting. I used to play various house parties initially started to dj over in Birmingham. A chance meeting with Matt McKillop (DeepCitySoul) provided me a platform to pursue djing as more than just a hobby that I enjoy aswell as being part of a bunch of like-minded souls who like a good party. A debut spot under DropFunkDialect & Further promotion was a great success and it gave me further exposure night. Other nights followed as I held residents spot in Stafford @ Chill Bar under "Intimate" promotion. Played at venues in Stoke, Lichfield, Walsall, Cannock, Bromsgrove under "So Delicious" promotions. Throughout 2006 I played on the London circuit, @ The White House under the notorious "Sundaze" promotion. Hooked up with South Londons No.1 Soulful/Deep House promoters Pret-A-Ecouter aka Jerry Frempong and Ian Morbey and played @ Sosho in Shoreditch, S-Bar in Battersea. House Promoters Glamourpuss based in Essex and alongside them, I played at The White House alongside Brandon Block, Bar Sia in Wimbledon, Fuego's in Central London, and the infamous Bank Holiday Boat Party down the Thames. I held residencies @ 23 Essex Street, Club-Chocolate, NV, House Is Home & Our House.
Present days.....
The music I play is Soulful House. It’s music which is heavily influenced by my hero’s Masters At Work and have I have enjoyed playing across the midlands on numerous promotions, Europe namely Croatia (Petrcane) and latterly over the past couple of years I have supported on promotions alongside Dj Spen, Greame Parks, Neil Pierce, Brandon Block, Bert Bevans to name but a few. Production projects for 2009 are currently on going, a debut presence at WMC at Miami Resort & Spa 2009 was a great success & with a return spot in 2010.
A new Soulful House show on the respected SS Radio called House Is Home which is a joint collaboration with my close friends and respected Artists DeepCitySoul is to be aired every fortnight (Sunday 12-2pm) bringing the very best of house both past and present.
Arguably, the most down to earth jock on the block with a smile permanently fixed his moniker; MORAIS is a major player in the House scene for many years to come.
