The label was founded in 2000 as a part of the Cocoon Music Event GmbH.
The company's other branches are Cocoon Booking (for Sven Väth, Ricardo Villalobos, Josh Wink etc. and Cocoon Clubbing, which organises club events as well as outdoor events and tours. Since July 2004, Cocoon also runs its own Club, located in Frankfurt, and being one of the most innovative club locations worldwide.
Cocoon has since expanded into a label (with releases from Sven himself, Ricardo Vilalobos, Tale of Us, Christian Burhardt and Pirupa to name a few), an agency (looking after the bookings for Sven, Ricardo and a long list of amazing techno djs and live acts), a management company and an award-winning club in the German city of Frankfur that has sadly been annouced for closure.
With the club Sven wanted to bring some of the vibe he created and experienced in Ibiza back to his hometown and that he did. A club based in beauty and aesthetics as much as it is about the sound as well as being great for relaxing (in the lounge) and getting on the dance floor and having a good old shake to some incredible techno. The level of the quality of the booking matches everything Sven and the Cocoon organization do in all the other areas of their lives so is therefore very high. The club shall be missed - but as Cocoon Recordings celebrates its 10th release, its on to a ne era for one of the most loved institutions in minimal and techno music.
Cocoon also enjoys worldwide success with Cocoon Heroes, A travelling techno circus that spans the world pretty much the year round with festival and warehouse appearances, selling out spaces and ramming tents everywhere they go. Motion in Bristol, Warehouse Project in Manchester and LWE/great Suffolk St warehouse have all shared the Cocoon vibe with UK division of Sven's worldwide band of techno hungry fans.
As well mas the Ibiza parties, the club and the aforementioned UK cities, Sven has taken Cocoon to Miami, Brisbane, Kiev, Oslo, Milan and Paris. Even that doesn’t start to scratch the surface of the reach of this beautiful monstrosity. The label is one of the best aspects of the Cocoon vibe as it seeks to put something back into music and support up and coming artists. Sven originally set up the label so that younger electronic music artists (mainly House and Techno) could get label love without having to rely on the complicated protocols that are involved in a major label release. Whatever your tastes in electronic music you cannot fail to admire what Cocoon do and what Sven has achieved.
