In a world where one's relevancy can exponentially increase due to some hate from on high, Pauly D's new video has now drawn increased attention due to a recent tweet from Deadmau5. After soliciting feedback from fans via the micro blogging service, Pauly received "@DJPaulyD well since you asked, i didn't really enjoy it. it looked like it cost about $150 to make, and nothing really creative about it."

After this died down a bit, Pauly fired it up with the picture below, which generated a pretty reasonable response from Deadmau5. Lulz!

Enter Les Nuits de Montreal, which is going down this Saturday, may 26th at Public Assembly in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Their maiden party on April 14th was a big hit and featured sets from MightyKat and Wagon Repair's Stephen Beaupré. This time they're welcoming Mossa (Complot, Cynosure, Thema) along with New York based resident Nola. The party concept explores the relationship between electronic artists in New York and Montreal and is prepping for an exciting summer.

M.I.A. Joins The Roc Nation Family

The Sri Lankan femcee has inked a management deal with Roc Nation, the entertainment company created by Jay-Z and Live Nation. The announcement was made today on Roc Nation’s website. The performer, whose real name is Maya Arulpragasam, joins a roster that includes Rihanna, Mark Ronson, Santigold, Wale, Shakira and Jay Electronica. "The nation just keeps on growing," Roc Nation tweeted, while Rihanna tweeted, "welcome home MIA."

M.I.A.’s fourth album Matangi is due out this September on Interscope Records and features production from longtime collaborator Switch. She is also slated to release a remix to her single “Bad Girls” (from her Vicki Leekx mixtape) featuring Missy Elliott, Azealia Banks, and Rye Rye.

Eastern Electrics - new venue announced

After dramatically losing its proposed venue last month, there was never any doubt that the show would go on for the brand new Eastern Electrics festival this August - there was just the small matter of finding a new venue. The one dayer had already announced some of the headliners for its event on 4th August and it was originally planned to take over Clapham Common. With the likes of Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex, Nina Kraviz, Kerri Chandler and Crazy P on the line up, the night's first foray into the festival scene is now billed to happen at Area 12 in Greenwich and will kick off from 11am.

In addition, the day long party, which is scheduled to finish at 10pm, will continue into the night with an after party at the O2 hosting Art Department, Thugfucker, Tale Of Us and more to be revealed. For the latest about the festival and to grab yourself a ticket, head here.

Ewan Pearson: How Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' Changed Pop

The Guardian have run a piece on how Donna Summer's finest 3 minutes and 47 seconds, the disco hit I Feel Love, had a massive impact on pop music. Both pop critic Jon Savage and electronic and pop producer Ewan Pearson ahared their opinions on the song. Check out Ewan's below.

I was only a child when Donna Summer released I Feel Love, that gargantuan behemoth of a record. But the sound of I Feel Love – that motorik, arpeggiated bassline – was the sound of my favourite dance records before dance music became Dance Music, and lots of my remixes have gone back to that kind of bassline.

Donna Summer was there at the start of Euro disco, and it's a familiar story to us in dance music: American artist becomes famous in Europe before it happens at home. She's an example of that weird connection between continents that dance music makes – she was a fluent German speaker. And she's remembered because, unlike a lot of the people who sang on the big Euro disco records, she looked like a star and she became a star in her own right: she was a star in a field that's often accused of not having any. And she was creative in her own right, too: she wrote the lyric to Love to Love You Baby, and gave it to Giorgio Moroder to turn into a full disco song.

She had a huge number of influential dance records – Love to Love You Baby, Our Love, Last Dance. Of course, I Feel Love overshadows everything. The Patrick Cowley megamix might be the greatest remix of all time: JD Twitch of Optimo says it's a record that has got him out of all sorts of trouble, though we didn't know if anyone had ever dared play the full 15 minutes of it. It's easy to underestimate it now; it's like Blade Runner – whenever you show that to someone younger, they're not impressed because it looks so familiar. Well, yes – that's because Blade Runner invented our idea of the future. It's the same with I Feel Love.

I've bemoaned many times that whenever guitar bands get popular again there's a sigh of relief, as if we're back to the way things should be. But dance music is ubiquitous, and I Feel Love is a reminder of its heritage. It's one of the greatest records ever and it will be always be remembered.

Say Goodbye Mouse, Hello Future

A San Francisco startup company, Leap Motion, has created a new little device that will change the way you control your computer. The Leap is a small 3D motion sensor that goes in front of your computer and creates a 3D interaction space of 8 cubic feet from which you can use your hands and fingers to direct your computer.

"It’s more accurate than a mouse, as reliable as a keyboard and more sensitive than a touchscreen," the company says on its website. "For the first time, you can control a computer in three dimensions with your natural hand and finger movements." Check out a video of the device in action below.

What's also quite impressive is that the company plans to sell the device for only $US69.99 and will begin shipping the first wave of units around December/January.

The "iPod sized" device, which was inspired by its founders' frustrations with current 3D modeling technology, connects over USB and will be able to function with both Mac OS X and Windows 7 and 8.

Decibel Festival Initial Lineup Announced

The 9th Annual Decibel International Festival of Electronic Music Performance & Visual Art returns to Seattle, Washington from September 26 - 30th. Taking place over five days across fourteen venues, 120 acts from the underground electronic music scene will be on display for music lovers.

This year’s lineup boasts acts like Carl Craig, Baths, Fennesz, Matthew Dear, Actress, John Talabot, Dixon, Dragonette, Kimbra, Juliana Barwick, CFCF, Emancipator, Monolake, Ariel Pink, Nina Kravitz, Lusine, Anenon, Houses, Loscil, and Biosphere, among others.

The remainder of the line-up (60 more acts out of 120) will be announced on June 27th, while the full schedule of educational programs, film screenings, after parties, and boat parties will be announced on July 11th.

This year you can count down to the festival in beats per minute. At a tasteful 120 BPM, it's 26,681,022 beats to go as of this moment.

Saturday, May 26th sees New York's favorite small club, Cielo, bring back their favorite German empress of sexy techno-tinged house for a Saturday Night Special with resident DJ Willie Graff. While Cassy has made such a name for herself that an introduction would be superfluous, Graff has been grinding it out as a Cielo resident DJ and producer for a while now and has started to get traction on some disco-influenced house music he's been producing with partner Tuccillo. Expect nothing but the smoothest of jams from the moment doors open, and hunker down as Cassy takes to the decks and lights the club on fire.

Richie Hawtin rolls out Twitter DJ

Never one to rest on his laurels where new technology is concerned, it's perhaps something of a surprise that Richie Hawtin's Twitter DJ app is only just being pushed to the masses. Back in 2009, the DJ and producer set about marrying two modern day inventions, Traktor and Twitter, in his sets effectively meaning his fans the world over would be able to check out exactly what the DJ and producer was playing by following a designated Twitter account. This not only meant no more guess work when following a DJ's set, but the technology was also designed to bring music rights kicking and screaming into the 21st century allowing artists to be paid the correct live performance fee for each track played.

Handily labeled 'Twitter DJ', there's been very little press about the app since, even though Hawtin is famous for using it regularly. Until now. It seems the Minus head is about to give the 'new' technology a bit of a push and there are rumours that several big name (Detroit techno!) DJ's are signed up to get on board.

Sorry trainspotters, looks like your skills are about to become obsolete...

Hatch launches with Yousef

London club EGG has just celebrated its birthday and starts its new year with news of a fresh club night hitting this Friday. Aptly named 'Hatch', the night promises to bring a blend of up and coming and established talent to the club across two rooms. This Friday 25th May will see northern type, Yousef, making the trip down from his native Liverpool to launch the event and he'll be joined by Oosh's Paolo Mojo and Pryda Friends' Jeremy Olander, with Hatch residents hosting the second room.

Daft Punk ‘Aerodynamic’ On Google's Moog Synth

In a tribute to what would have been Robert Moog's 78th birthday, yesterday Google celebrated the pioneer's most important invention for electronic music, the Moog synth, with a playable synthesizer on their search homepage. It was a hell of a lot of fun recording melodies, tweaking knobs and being able to mess about on it, as many of you probably did.

Though one guy really took advantage of the opportunity and went to town on the gadget, recording a version of Daft Punk's Aerodynamic and absolutely nailing it. He even made a video, too! Check it out below...but try to ignore the weird, psychotic stares he gives to the camera.

RIAA vs. LimeWire

When Dr. Evil demands $100 billion dollars in Austin Powers, his request is seemingly ludicrous. Along those same lines, the new lawsuit posed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is just as absurd.

Although LimeWire was shutdown in October 2010, the RIAA is actively seeking an estimated $72 trillion dollars in damages from the filesharing company. This astounding numerical dollar amount seems a tad hasty, considering the wealth of the world is approximately $60 trillion dollars. According to Computerworld.com, the RIAA truly believes this is the amount owed in damages for the unlawful use of ‘infringed’ material. The RIAA has specifically identified over 11,000 songs as ‘infringed,’ and the proposed number of times, which is in the thousands, each song was downloaded should be included as a factor in such sought after compensation.

Alternatively, Judge Wood, who presided over the case proceedings, opposes the suit and has said that the music industry is entitled only to a "single statutory damage award from Defendants per work infringed" for several reasons, including one that suggests that any other decision could lead to "absurd results.”

LimeWire may still be forced to pay up to $150,000 dollars per download, which could lead to over $1 billion dollars in total damages. Not quite as much money as the RIAA is looking for, but a hefty sum nonetheless.

Life and Death on the High Seas

As I try to perpetuate the afterglow that's followed Time To Get Resolute's Tale of Us Yacht party, I'm pumping their 3 hour Pulse Radio Podcast 073 and have found myself stopping whatever I'm doing as new videos or pictures trickle out of Facebook. Setting this party afloat was an ambitious move that stemmed from what initially was unwelcome news. In one of the best examples of turning lemons into lemonade, when promoters Nektarios Ioannidis and Larry Ursini's original venue for the party (a beautiful church that will be used for future events) fell through, they went large, and commissioned a yacht not previously used in New York for an underground house music cruises. The Tale of Us Yacht sported a 500 capacity outdoor upper deck, along with an expertly-tuned sound system that has become par for the course at both Time To Get Ill and Resolute events. The yacht's staff was friendly and helpful, and with ample space to dance and easily accessible toilets, it made for an unforgettable afternoon and evening.

In addition to offering us the chance to catch an extended set by some of deep tech house's current frontmen, Tale of Us, the party was also another opportunity for DJ Tennis to continue his move from behind the fire-hot Life and Death label and into the spotlight as an artist with a truly unique and ultra viable sound. Attendees included the usual New York technorati, but also some notably fresh-faced and delightfully attractive female attendees who're clearly hip to the sex-disco sounds Life and Death has become a beacon for releasing in recent years.

What began as something I'd casually said to a friend in passing grew into a mantra as the night wore on: "They've set the bar nearly unattainably high for the rest of the summer's seafaring soirees" and provided often jaded New Yorker's with a truly unique and refreshing party experience.

Since we always strive to offer as well rounded a perspective on all good times, we're beyond pleased to share a window into the party from a talented member of the fairer sex, photographer and esteemed party princess Elena Gorelik. Her photography expertly captures the delightful nonsense, while her account of the evening shows what a transcendent experience it was for all involved. Also special thanks to Alex Kofman and his beautiful assistant, Marianna Isabelle for the video footage. -Alex Fish

It’s nearly Summer and the gauntlet has been thrown for the season’s boat parties, the nautical hallmark of New York's warm weather prodigal get-downs. The Time to Get….Resolute party was a new moon, lady-friendly seafaring encore... to the January production featuring half of Tale of Us (Matteo) and the perversely social pizza lovers, Thugfucker. This time, Resolute’s avuncular Nektarios and Time to Get ILL’s Crazy Larry moved the party out of the bowels of a Buschwick warehouse to the decks of The Royal Princess on the most perfect of afternoons that transitioned seamlessly into a postcard-stunning new-moon night. DJ Tennis and the Tale of Us duo kept us entertained, gyrating and on the prowl for something weird…something promising.

At three levels and spanning 160 feet, the behemoth vessel-turned-magic-carpet was more Royal Highness than Princess and served luxurious host to us wicked Sunday partiers to shake our shit upon; clockwise, counter-clockwise…every which way, with room to spare. We sailed into the sunset, paid our respects to Lady Liberty and made our way through the cosmos (and the seas) amidst sounds ranging from booty-grooving lady-pleasers via Tennis’ midas touch to deep, just-this-side-of-esoteric refrains from Tale of Us. The really "out there" intergalactic badgering came from the prodigious Matteo, who was ceremoniously presented with a cake in honor of his birthday at the end of the night. Naturally, the genius gets to have his cake and eat it too.

Music aside, you could cut the magic with a knife and spread it on a party-for-the-books sandwich. Thanks and praise to our devoted hosts, for vibe curation is tricky business for a throng of 500 exploring various realms of consciousness. A little bashful at first, the party seemed to use the sway of the boat as an excuse to bump and grind and get friendly with the neighbors while docked, before all hell broke loose once we pushed off. I for one was prancing about hit-and-run-confetti-bombing unsuspecting strangers and dispensing unsolicited relationship advice that bordered on the irresponsible. My fairy tribe of princesses donned LED props and batted eyelashes for kicks, tricks and photo-ops and I was all too happy to snap away. The eye-candy was ample, approachable and oh-so-chic. Soulful brothers and sisters were getting down, generously salacious in their gestures and gesticulations. Raawwwrr!

Life and Death, the newly-truly in the spotlight label of the moment consists of, lucky for us, a handful of pretty swell guys who are keen to keep the party fires burning bright and continuous….at least until the world ends. There’s something about the menagerie that inspires the party instigator in all of us. . And why not? It’s a damn fun game after all. Thank you fellas, for setting the stage for what is sure to be a dangerously sizzling Summer...by land and by sea. -Elena Gorelik

Future Disco returns to Space

Across two venues Sean Brosnan will be bringing some of deep house, nu-disco and tech's leading lights to serve up the music. Ibiza - Cocoon announce extra date

Gary Numan talks Cars

Gary Numan has undoubtedly had his own influence on the world of electronic music. A pioneer of the nu wave sound, Numan made genre defining contributions from the end of the 1970's with his hits 'Are Friends Electric' and 'Cars', both of which are widely considered to have set the scene for a whole generation of new musical sounds in the 80's. Numan, now almost 60, is still out there performing, producing and pioneering and come July 7th will be headlining alongside the likes of Steve Reich, Richie Hawtin, Orbital, Appleblim, Squarepusher and T Williams at Bloc Festival in London.

The live stream series will premiere a custom camera application called 'Frontrow', which will allow the audience to use pan and zoom features to change their view and take photos during the live stream, apply lens filters and immediately share with their friends through Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Australians Support Reduced Penalties For Ecstasy And Cannabis Use

A federal government analysis shows that more than half of Australians support reduced legal penalties for the use of drugs such as ecstasy and cannabis, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. The results contrast with the Herald/Nielsen poll which was released yesterday, which showed that two-thirds of people opposed decriminalisation.

The contrast in findings is explained by the different way the questions for each poll were structured, said Alison Ritter - head of a drug policy modelling program at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at the University of NSW. Her group's analysis of the federal government's 2010 national household survey on drugs sampled about 26,000 people.

Professor Ritter said this ''clearly shows that most Australians distinguish between legalising the use of illicit drugs and decriminalising their use, which would mean lower penalties for personal use." The analysis was based on questions about what should happen to anyone found in possession of small quantities of specified drugs.

The analysis finds nearly three-quarters of Australians support lighter penalties, or effectively decriminalisation, regarding cannabis, but more than half oppose making personal use of such a drug legal.

The poll comes off the back of a public forum held at Sydney University on Monday night which posed the question, “Should the government decriminalise drugs?” You can watch a recorded video of the forum below.

Nico Jaar Collaborates With Steven Spielberg's Daughter

When Nicolas Jaar's recent compilation Don't Break My Love (which came in the form of a prism) dropped a month or so ago, we were oblivious to the fact that a track on the release called Avalanche by an artist known as 'Just Friends' is in fact a collaboration between Jaar and Sasha Spielberg - daughter of Hollywood director Steven. Pretty cool huh? We can thank the cats over at FACT for that one.

Funnily enough, Avalanche also featured on Jaar's Essential Mix which dropped over the weekend. Check out the collaborative track below as well as Jaar's weird and wonderful two hour mix for BBC Radio One below.

Greg Wilson, The Hacienda & The Akwil Digitheque Mixer

30 years ago, on May 21 of 1982, The Hacienda opened its majestic doors in Mancester a hoarde of UK party-goers. Following the Rave explosion of the late 80’s, The Hacienda became a place of legend, but little is remembered by the general public about its early years. As Greg Wilson explains in a recent reflection about The Hacienda and its beginnings, things behind the DJ booth were nothing compared to how selectors have it today.

Situated at the bottom of a staircase and off to the side of the dancefloor, DJs were able to see (barely) only the feet and ankles of attendants. The controls within the booth were placed an awkward height, leaving Wilson with outstretched arms for most of Friday night in 1983: “5 years on the dancers there became legendary for their hands in the air vibe, but back then the only hands in the air were those of the DJ in that bizarre booth.” Topping it all off, though, was a particular piece of mixing equipment made by Akwil that made life hell for anyone attempting to work the 1’s and 2’s back then. “The infamous Akwil Digitheque mixer... this mixer was the bane of my life. This was just a load of confusing knobs and buttons when it was faders I was used to... working in there was like deejaying with a hand tied behind my back.”

Giorgio Moroder talks about Donna Summer

As the IMS kicks of this week, keynote speaker, Giorgio Moroder will join Nile Rodgers, Paul Oakenfold, Will.I.Am and Francois K at the 5 star Dalt Villa. Before his talk, IMS caught up with GiMo to ask him about his work with Donna Summer. (IMS Kicks of tomorrow - full info here)

On remembering Donna Summer: First of all, she was a great singer and a great human being. Very funny, always ready for a joke. I must say, especially with ´Love To Love You, Baby´, we did something which after more than 30 years you still hear in almost every dance song — some parts, the bass line and some of the instruments used particularly. I think the legacy, we established a sound or a genre which still lives on.

On recording I Feel Love I wanted to do something futuristic and I used to know the Moog quite well because i´d done several recordings before - not in that style, but using it as an instrument. I thought, ´let´s try to do a song without, let´s say any "human hands.”´ Just the computer. So I took down a bass line. I kind of played the chords but without a melody and followed with all the instruments. I tried to imitate the snare drum and high-hat and all the stuff with the computer. The only thing that I was not able to do was the drum kick with the synthesizer. That was the only live recording on that song.

On recording Love To Love You Baby: Actually when my publisher brought it to Cannes [for the MIDEM conference], I didn´t think it would work because it was too kind of outrageous. But to my surprise, I got a phone call and the lady told me that it was a big success - big interest! We were just happy that somebody was releasing it, but we never thought it would become a hit. I think we became a little closer then and "OK, let´s do it. We have a good chance of a #1 worldwide and we have to see what´s next, se we started to work on the next project together."

On recently rediscovering his passion for making dance music again and his appearance at this week´s IMS It´s really funny because dance music now is pop music. In LA, I would only listen to Kiss FM, which only plays pop music. Now dance music is pop. Out of 10 songs, seven or eight are dance/pop. I listen quite a lot and I know some of the artists, of course David Guetta and Tiesto are huge. Those guys I followed a little more lately and I think it´s a great community. I never DJ´d, but I did some remixes. I think I´m going to like it and in Ibiza at the IMS I´m going to be part of the panel and I´m probably going to meet some of the guys there. I´ve met Danny Tenaglia already. I´ve met some of the guys before, so it´s going to be interesting to see them again.

On his return to making dance music again Well I´m starting now. I may do a remix of ´Love To Love You, Baby´. We have already some interest. That´s one thing, I´m probably going to do some songs featuring a singer - a female or group. I like to work with female singers, which I´ve done a lot in my life. Rihanna would be my favourite, also Nicki Minaj would be great - those are the top girls who I would like to work with.
