BIOGRAPHY
Music has always held a position at the forefront of what was important to Wax Motif. Growing up in the 90s meant he had a healthy appreciation of the styles of music that were shaping that decade – from the weighty and ever-evolving sounds of Techno and House to the 'up yours' attitude, and heavily rooted artists that bore the tag of Gangsta Rap. ??????
However, simply listening to music during his spare time, or occasionally dancing to the Top-40-styles that were so prevalent at any house party during the time, didn't satisfy the musical beast that was rapidly growing inside of him and so, at the age of 19, Wax Motif purchased his first set of turntables, and to put it colloquially, 'got crackin'.??????
Wax Motif immediately began collecting copious amounts of music, across various genres, careful never to skew his commitment to one particular style. Through both vinyl, and digital spanning, Wax Motif built up a repertoire of different styles and/or movements in modern music; Baltimore Club, Baile Funk, Breakbeat, Hip Hop (both old and new skool), Drum n Bass, Electro, and House were the main contributors to his dynamic collection. And it was this choice, the one that ensured he would not be pigeon-holed like so many other DJs, that became the catalyst and defining inspiration for the DJ we see in him today. ??????
Hailed by former Australian No. 1 DJ, Ajax as the one to watch and now a radio presenter for Frequency on Sydney radio station, FBi 94.5 FM, as of 2008 Wax is also the official tour DJ for groundbreaking hip-hop crossover artist, Snob Scrilla. Having already supported international artists such as Stanton Warriors, Sinden, Radioclit, A-trak, Kid Sister, Pase Rock, Tittsworth, The Autobots, Lady Waks, Sam Sparro, Stupid Fresh, A-Skillz, Ctrl-Z, Surkin, Fred Falke as well as a host of others, Wax Motif has no plans of stopping.
Wax’s original production work has just started to blossom, gaining support from artists such as Chew Fu Phat (Brooklyn Zoo Records), Nic Sarno (ESP records), Act Yo Age & Ajax (Sweat It Out) and RoShamBo, keep an eye out for his upcoming releases.
