“I like everything a little off, a little ripped, a little f—ed up; done naturally yet exploring a defined concept or thesis. That is how I would like my music to represent me, and come off to others, with a raw, punk’d up aesthetic. I want it new and fresh, but at the same time, I want it to incorporate my associations in life. "
Clade in black, Skyler Taugher a.k.a SHADED, has a dark, punk style that is best described as grungy minimal, and draws inspiration through a mix of raw edges and loose riffs. Music, fine art, and fashion fuel his creativity and allow him to refine his approach in all aspects in life. His terms of association, style, and musical taste are inspired by a very select group of aesthetics and design elements, such as 80’s punk rock music, so-cal surf living , and anything blacked out. From a production standpoint, SHADED's take on creating music stresses continuity and association. Exploring his self identified concept and direction has allowed him to create his own musical fusion that will never sacrifice in creative exploration.
Growing up in Newport Beach, CA, Skyler secluded himself in skating, surfing, and music since a young age. His father, a musician and producer of classic rock, helped nurture the raw and electronic sound he loves to pump. Since 2006, his production style has constantly evolved while staying true to his sound of groove laden, punk inspired minimal and late night pulsing SURF-techno. Wether it is his productions under 'Taugher', his moniker 'SHDWPLAY', or his latest and most introspective creation as 'SHADED', the funk infused techno fever is always pushing. His sound is undeniable in character, and is always bending around that dark abyss with those funky, mind-tangling swerves.
As he puts it....
"It is the human element interacting with organic environments. Playing with words while playing with minds is on my mind when I create my jams .My concept is all I really care about. Music is so sick, but without an idea, a concept holding it all together, the artist leaves his art-form behind. I love bass, I love funk, and I love surf-punk shit. SHDWPLAY was just the beginning for me, an outlet of ideas from my rock days turned electronica. Moving forward I want SHADED to be the continuation of the SHDWPLAY sound, but with a funky ass twist… SHADED will represent my past, and encapsulate the feelings that created all the jams thus far, but at the same time, it will be my outlet to completely express my creative process…"
So keep you ear lobes lubed and your eyes peeled because its time to get SHADED and faded ;)
