He may probably be one of the more actively humorous DJs in the electronic music industry, yet Seth Troxler is just as serious about his music as the other A-list DJs that we see in the world. With his roots in Michigan, United States, Troxler derives much of his musical heritage and inspiration from the musical cultures of Detroit and Chicago. Accordingly, some of the most influential individuals that continue to affect his music are RichiHawtin and Moodymann.
Having gained the status as the 45th DJ in the Official DJ Rankings in the United States, Troxler holds the impressive position as one of the several founders of the Visionquest record label and also as the head of the Tuskegee, Soft Touch, and Play it, Say It labels. Although young, Troxler has taken upon himself a number of ambitious projects, one of which includes collaborating with other A-list DJs in Detroit to create a musical revolution.
His impressive and ambitious nature dates back to 2002, when he began DJing at a Detroit club called The Works at the mere age of 16. Since then, he has grown into a mature DJ that explores a variety of electronic music. His unique style of music and energy have gained him the invitation to perform at clubs and prestigious international events like the Detroit Music Festival, Fabric, Tenax, MUTEK, Panorama Bar, Watergate, Robert Johnson, The Rex, Fuse, Avalon, and The End Up. He is furthermore a host of a variety of parties, such as that of his own bi-monthly parties. He was also an influential member in the production of America’s Tesh Club parties.
Interestingly, Troxler has claimed to look at Robert Downey Jr. as his main source of inspiration. According to him, his music allows the audience to become released from the shackles of restraint and struggle, much like those that bound the actor both on and off screen. These influences have apparently led the DJ to include unconventional sounds like the chirping of crickets, sounds of scape ships, and the even stranger whistling of voodoo rituals into his music..
