Scuba aka Paul Rose has to be one of the most hard-working DJs and producers in modern dance music. With an almighty 25 EPs, 3 albums and 5 published mixes released since 2006, with further releases as his alter-ego, SCB, Scuba's prolific output matches his drive and determination to transcend boundaries.
As one of the most respected artists across multiple scenes - starting namely in the Dubstep scene and moving on to more dancefloor orientated sounds - Paul refuses to be pigeon-holed and put into one particular box, something that's been reflected marvelously on his label and his reloaction to Berlin. Paul has helped the careers of Hotflush giants, George Fitzgerald, Joy Orbison, Distance, Roska and Mount Kimbie along with the lesser-known but still seminal artists such Sepalcure, Sigha and Recondite.
His refusal to stand still is one of the things that has propelled him into the hearts of many a raver. Having started off as a dubstep producer (known largely for his seminal album Triangulation) he moved quickly on to the Techno sound after becoming disillusioned by the appropriation of underground electronic music he made at the time. Sine, he's dropped such modern classics as Adrenalin and Loss (as SCB) which won him a residency at one of the worlds most important electronic dance music venues, Berghain, for his killer Sub:stance parties.
Although the popular club night has recently bid farewell, Sub:stance remained a perfect reflection of his musical personality, booking established house and techno artists such as Francois K and Luke Vibert and also his own family of ex-dubstep turned techno artists like Boddika, Addison Groove, Dbridge, Pearson Sound and Trevino aka Marcus Intalex.
Recently, Scuba released Personality, a breakbeat-influenced album as a throwback to his earlier raving days, had the critics and fans scratching their heads once more. Having never felt like he fit in with any certain scene Scuba makes music that he feels like making, his defiance against trends and thirst for something new and fresh shall keep him shape-shifting for some time to come.
