Label head at Vitalik Recordings, founder of Burlington Project and instigator of some of Ibiza's more interesting alternative music events, Ryan O Gorman has been at the helm of some of London and Ibiza's more forward thinking electronic music projects. Throwing parties from a young age enviably led him into the club world, however it is his creative ability that has driven these projects. As an artist and engineer his studio alias is a tightly guarded secret, anonymity he feels gives him the freedom to experiment with different styles and removes the aspect of persona from his music. As a DJ, from acquiring his first set of belt drive turntables at 15 in his native Ireland to his current residency with We Love… on the Space terrace, his dedication to the art of djing has seen him play in almost every note worthy club between his respective London and Ibiza bases. As an avid advocate of music that challenges the mind (as opposed to mentally challenged music) Ryan's sets take inspiration from emotive triggers, imposing sounds and infectious grooves - music that nourishes the mind and moves the body.
In ’99, a n-n-n-n-nineteen year old Ryan O Gorman arrived in Ibiza. Having just completed sound engineering studies at college in Northern Ireland he was in search of something radically different; Ibiza was an easy choice for a young lad with a box of records and a penchant for a party... In the decade that passed he established some of Ibiza’s finest alternative/pirate radio stations, he organized some of the Islands most memorable outdoor free parties and has constantly pioneered new music through his various creations, most notably Electricsex, Vitalik and most recently Burlington Project and Vitalik Recordings.
Be it radio or playing records, music production or throwing a party, he has shunned the path of convention in an effort to create something significant and different. The absence of any electronic or alternative radio precipitated his first radio station in Ibiza, the departure of the full moon parties in the late noughties brought about the notorious Cave Raves and the complete void of good music in San Antonio brought about Electricsex at Eden. The latter ran from midnight until noon the following day. In its first year Ryan regularly played the full 12 hours alone. Many prestigious guests have graced the decks since then, their line-ups being some of the most forward thinking and diverse in Ibiza. Electricsex made an electronic sound that was alien to many people at the time accessible by virtue of Ryan and Andy Gs (Electricsex dj partner and then resident at Bora Bora) experience of making people dance on a daily basis; an ability that every hard working resident Ibiza dj should possess.
Vitalik on the other hand was an extension of the free parties Ryan threw with Joe Upton (founding member of NastyDirtySexMusic) and was more deeply rooted. ‘We Love…’ with their intuitive knowledge for a good thing, invited the pair to take over the Redbox at Space in ’06. They were sufficiently impressed to invite them back to host the cavernous discotheque of Space the following year, these parties were huge but fell victim to Ibiza’s new licensing laws in 2008, at which point Vitalik morphed, the creative outlet was channeled into the newly born Vitalik Recordings. Since then The label has has established itself as trusted outlet for quality underground music releasing music from artists like Mark Henning, Martin Buttrich, Agnes, Appleblim, Franklin De Costa, Anonym, The Mole, Gerd, Pezzner and many more. Vitalik Recordigns launched their vinyl only offshoot "The Gold Series" in late 2012, the debut release featuring The Mole and Jimmy Edgar and an all star cast planned for the upcoming realises. Early 2013 will also see a number of remixes along with a number of full length EP's under his various production aliases, the year just gone has seen his music licensed to Bedrock and Leftroom compilations and receiving glowing reviews from the music press at large. As well as running his own imprint Ryan is at helm of the newly established We Love Recordings and will see the release of the critically acclaimed We Love Detroit compilation from Derrick May and Jimmy Edgar in January 2013.
