Roberto started his musical journey in January 2000 using his precious savings at the age of 16 to buy his first set of turntables. After perfecting his craft for a few years he decided that production was the way forward, and he enrolled on a music technology class at Leicester College, followed by an acoustics course at Salford University in 2003.
After a prolonged stint exploring the spectrum of electronica, he found that he was gravitating towards house and techno. Producers such as Jimpster, Steve Rachmad, Samuel L Session, Derrick May and Funk D’Void were drawing his attention, and their influence can be heard in his production work today.
In 2009 Roberto hooked up with an old school friend Chris Wood to start Kai-Zen promotions. This would be an opportunity to play techno music at parties that weren’t catered for around Roberto’s hometown of Hitchin in Hertfordshire. The events were a great success, which encouraged Roberto to get back into the studio. He has always prided himself on having a thorough involvement with the club brand, and is central to the triumphs that have come to pass since the inception of Kai-Zen back at the start of 2009. The subsequent expansion of Kai-Zen events in Clapham and Shoreditch have also provided Rob with ample opportunity to test his new material and ensure each release is perfectly crafted.
He describes his DJ style as style as a bit of everything from techno to deep house but always with an emphasis on the Detroit-based groove. Over the last 2 years, he’s played alongside the likes of Cesar Merveille, Jamie Anderson, Julian Chaptel & Kyle Hall in locations like London, Manchester, Liverpool, Oxford, Ghent (Belgium) and Nottingham. In terms of released work, Clubbed Up Recordings, Architronica, and Griminal Recordings have snapped up a number of tracks already, and this Autumn will see the release of 2 new EP’s on Jamie Anderson’s impeccable Artform imprint. Little wonder that his music is receiving support from Ben Klock, Shlomi Aber, Dubfire (who gave his Cougar EP 10 out of 10 on Architronica), Richie Hawtin Steve Rachmad, Samuel L Session, , Terry Francis, Slam, Lauren Garnier and even Paul Oakenfold.
With an ever increasing production portfolio and the ongoing success of Kai-Zen, the future certainly looks bright for Roberto!
