Robbie Lowe is one of Australia’s finest DJs and is often the “go-to-guy” for perfect support and warm up spots for the biggest names on the planet. He’s set just the right mood for a multitude of internationals, from house artists such as Pezzner & Danny Howells and the finest in progressive such as Sasha & Digweed, right across to the world’s biggest trance act - Tiesto. Robbie’s equally at ease playing to thousands of people at major national festivals, as he is setting the vibe at darker, intimate back room gigs.
Robbie’s label as “Sydney’s best warm up DJ” could be seen as a bittersweet label to be tagged with, but it is one Robbie wears with modest pride. However as great as he is warming up a room, he is clearly an amazing peak time DJ in his own right as shown through his consistent floor following and excellent residencies over the past decade.
DJing since the mid 90’s Robbie’s journey launched properly with a top notch residency at the legendary Sounds On Sunday events at The Greenwood. Here Robbie developed a solid fan base as his late evening courtyard sets became the talk of the town – the perfect way for clubbers to finally wrap up their weekend with a smile, and also for industry to unwind. From 2002, Sweetchilli promoters Daniel Crocetti and Crispin Kerr hooked in to Robbie’s talent and direction and resulted in focussed and top quality sets with a great diversity, meaning he could readily adapt to any slot and take the party in exactly the right direction.
Beyond the Sweetchilli partnership, Robbie’s career has been filled with as much diversity as his sets. He’s been a regular contributor to Australian EDM magazine 3D World over the past five years, along with a tonne of radio spots both online and across traditional airwaves, as well as mixing the highly acclaimed “Colour” podcast series alongside fellow Sydney DJ, Tim Culbert. The international scene hasn’t missed out either, with slots at New York's Sullivan Room and Le Souk along with London’s epic Turnmills in 2005 alongside UMEK & John 00 Fleming.
More recently, Robbie’s journey into music production with Sydney producer Matt Rowan has seen them release cuts on Hussle, Outta Limits and Rococo while most recently they’ve turned in “Ground Swell” for Proton Music, and yet another Proton release for the “Colour” EP.
The flare, personality and diversity as a DJ is something that will have Robbie Lowe kept as Sydney’s firm favourite. Regardless of whether it’s the current residencies for Shrug or Spice, or setting the standard for the Australian festival circuit you’ll always see and hear the passion, skills and talent that makes for an understated, but very special DJ.
