Hailing from the free- party underground collective ‘Heretik System’, French DJ/ Producer Popof (born Alexandre Paounov) left the rave scene to explore other avenues of electronic dance music and has since found himself featured on labels such as Cocoon, Turbo, A.F.U, Cr2 and Mistakes. He released his EP ‘Alcoolic’ on AFU in 2007 to huge success.
Leaning more toward minimal techno and electro but with splashes of tech-house thrown in, Popof is nothing if not a versatile artist and can boast that he’s playlisted by the likes of Tiesto, Benny Benassi, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, John Digweed, Erol Alkan and Tiga, not to mention that his releases generally end up in the higher end of the download charts.
He established his own label, Form in 2009 as a means to explore greater artistic freedom and releases have included new tracks from artists such as Joachim Pastor, Sebastien Leger, James Harcourt, H2, Julian Jeweil and Sam Paganini as well as his own output. Rather than sticking to any specific genre, Popov prides his label as a purveyor of all things electronic rather than a niche label.
Popof has also found himself in demand for remixes and has so far produced remixes for Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, Moby, Booka Shade, Tiga, Martin Solveig and Vitalic among others.
