Berlin based Mia Lucci's interest in music may have begun with the obligatory piano lessons her mother pushed her into at age 5, but her passion for electronic music was to be a more chance encounter. Returning from a night out in her native Sydney to an after party with decks, and no-one on them, Mia grabbed the headphones, the records, and "signed in" to dj life. Back then, the vinyl culture was still thriving and Mia feels grateful that she was a part of that weekly quest to get the newest records.
"The scene has changed dramatically with the advent of technology. Now it's not just about mixing, or getting to the record store first, it's about really putting in the time to sift through the thousands of songs that get released each week, finding the sounds you like and creating a sound that is unique."
And Mia does this with extreme care, analysing all the songs that make it into her cart so that she knows both exactly when to drop them and what reaction they will get. And it is this knowledge, that allows her the freedom to confidently intertwine genres and moods, but maintain a cohesive story throughout.
Now with 7 years of dj'ing behind her, and in her second season as a resident at Salina's beach in Ibiza, Mia is taking the inevitable next steps. She has a weekly radio show on Ibiza Global, "Signing In," where each week, audiences from around the world can sign in to 60 minutes of Mia's favourite new and old tunes, from deep and moody house to bouncy techno.
She is also hitting the studio hard, with her first single featuring Stee Downes, due out soon. Add this to her growing number of Berlin and Ibiza gigs (she recently played at the Mother Recordings party at Katerholzig) and her growing list of international supports, including Damian Lazarus, Jamie Jones, Art Department, and her Circo Loco Australia residency, it is fair to say that Mia Lucci has only jusssstt 'signed in' for what is already and what will no doubt be - a journey not to be missed.
