Matthew and Kate’s live show involves lots of improvisation with Kate playing melodies and stabs on the synth and Matthew in control of the groove on ableton. They use an mpc which is hooked up to some outboard effects and also a vocal mic. All these elements combined create a unique sound, raw but packed full of soul.
Early in 2011 their live Resident Advisor podcast got great feedback with many saying it was refreshing to hear something completely different. Their live act is always developing and ranges from raw stripped-back house to techno. Matthew and Kate have been producing music with each other for around 3 years. Over this time they have collected various hardware synths, instruments and effects which allows their sound to be diverse and evolving.
Matthew has been involved in electronic music for the last 10 years and worked with Connect Four, Leftroom, Retrofit and
with Sammy Dee to be the first release on his label, Ultrastretch. He is also now releasing on Visionquest and along with Kate plan an ep on the label this coming Winter.
Kate’s a little newer to the scene and only really started getting into dance music after meeting Matthew in 2007 (who could ask for a better teacher?!) In 2010, she and Matthew worked together to release on Jay Shepheard’s label, Retrofit, where they will continue to release in the future.
The live act has seen them perform across several countries over the last year and plans are in progress for a busy year in 2012 hopefully allowing them to share their unique music with new crowds across the world.
