There should not be any borders when it comes to art!
Instead of following the usual routines – doing CD albums once a year – Marybell Katastrophy wish to experiment in a playful way, putting out EP’s when they feel like it. Marybell Katastrophy said ‘no thanks’ to offers from traditional record labels, and is instead releasing EP’s as 10 inch vinyls and downloads in collaboration with their management, Merger.
In the world of Marybell Katastrophy, everything is allowed and possible. There should simply not be any borders when it comes to art. And the band really loves the EP concept, especially when it’s on 10’’ vinyl! That’s why when one of the most talked about and critically acclaimed Danish bands released their debut, it could not be found on a CD.
On December 6, 2007, Marybell Katastrophy released their first masterpiece; the 5-song EP This is The One on two formats:
-> 10 inch hand-numbered vinyl, limited to 500 copies, decorated by friends, family, local artists, children and yeah, basically whoever comes along (in other words: not a single artwork looked the same).
-> As download, initially only from marybell.dk where buyers can decide the price themselves.
This is The One got rave reviews in the media, many declaring Marybell Katastrophy ‘the best new band in Denmark.’
A new EP follows March 12, 2008. You Are The Two will be available on the same two formats (nope, still no CD..). This time the 10’’ vinyl sleeves will be decorated in an all-500-at-once graffiti event, and downloads from both This is The One and You Are The Two will be available from wherever downloads are being sold.
The vinyls are limited, the downloads are not!
As a mix between the gentle and the explosive, alternative/electronic act Marybell Katastrophy has found their niche. Their music is to be found somewhere in the landscape between Johannes Brahms, Pixies and David Bowie.
Being quite difficult to describe, critics have compared the sound of Marybell Katastrophy to everything from The Bangles on acid, to Kate Bush turned upside down…
The band, consisting of Marie H’jlund (ex. Tiger Tunes), Maria Timm (ex. The Broken Beats) and Emil Thomsen (Schweppenh user), played their debut concert in July 2006, but has already done numerous shows in Denmark and also toured France, Ireland and Germany. Marybell Katastrophy has played big festivals such as the Roskilde Festival in 2007 and the grand opening show at the Spot Festival (Danish South By Southwest) in 2007, according to major Danish paper Politiken, a ‘concert revelation’.
