Marco Carola is a pioneer and living legend in his genre. A global ambassador of Italian techno, he paved the way for generations of producers after him and helped shaped the techno scene today. Raised in Napoli in the south of Italy, Carola and a select few built the Neopolitan techno scene up from the ground in the early 90s, and with no cues to go off and others to imitate they quickly became a force unto themselves and a catalyst for techno today.
In 1995 he had already created a large collection of his own unique and mastered productions. With no established label to release on he created Design Music himself to release his own productions and released his 'First Planet EP', making him the first Neopolitan artist to release techno on vinyl, paving the way for many producers and gaining huge fans in Sven Vath and later Richie Hawtin, at the same time.
Following his standout initial success, Carola founded the Zenit, Question and One Thousand labels in the 1990s and relocated to Frankfurt to expose himself to the booming techno scene there and to expose his music to others. In 1998 he released his debut album The 1000 collection, a defining release for the genre. In 2001 he relocated to London and released his second album Open System to widespread critical acclaim. The album was named album of the year by key influential German publication, Groove.
Conquering the world with his hard hitting techno sound, Carola relocated back to his home in Napoli to explore further influences, sounds and styles, stripping back his production to focus on producing minimalistic, slowed down grooves to DJ in underground clubs and parties. He founded Domestic Minimal Noise to bridge the two Carola styles fans know and love him for, which he is still producing under today. In 2007, he collaborated with Richie Hawtin on his Plus 8/Minus label on the track 'Apena' and later on with 'Bloody Cash', one of the label’s biggest techno tracks. Headlining the world’s biggest clubs and festivals to this day and producing the most influential and groundbreaking techno of its time, Marco Carola is a name synonymous with the genre he helped pioneer.
