BIOGRAPHY
When it comes to New York nightlife and contemporary dance culture, Larry Tee is a legend like no other. He created the term electroclash for his festivals in 2001 (it's in the Oxford English Dictionary now) which helped launch the careers of The Scissor Sisters, Princess Superstar, Felix Da Housecat, 2 Many DJs/Soulwax, Peaches and many more. He DJ’ed at the ROXY more times than any other in history, started and named the infamous Disco 2000 of Party Monster movie fame, and co-wrote the only top 40 record by a drag queen in Billboard history [RuPaul's 'Supermodel (You Better Work).'] Now, Larry Tee takes on his most challenging role to date: launching an international music festival in New York City called Dance Music Invasion 2007. It’s a natural new chapter; for years people have used the term "Larry Tee in the place to be" as a way of saying that if Larry Tee is on it, it's cool!
Larry Tee hails from Atlanta, Georgia where he was friends with R.E.M., and his first group, The Fans, produced the B-52s’ first single 'Rock Lobster/52 Girls.' He moved to New York with fellow Atlantans RuPaul and Lady Bunny and quickly took over the NYC club scene with his epic party Love Machine. It was from watching the supermodels come in each week that he got inspiration to write his dance classic, "Supermodel (You Better Work), which went on to become the #1 Dance Single of 2002 in Billboard magazine. He later went on to DJ the ROXY, start Disco 2000 with Michael Alig, and host Fridays at the legendary TWILO where the progressive house stars of today got their fame. Around this time Larry decided to get clean from drugs and alcohol and had to re-examine his life and career. He turned to music for his solace and championed a new sound quite unlike anything before; thus Electroclash was born. After throwing 4 festivals stateside, which included Electroclash 1 and 2 as well as the Outsider Elctronic Music Festivals 2003 & 2004, he moved on to playing cutting edge dance music to thousands each week at his NYC parties The BANK and Distortion Disko. He may have moved on from electro, but Larry has kept the innovative spirit and attitude that sum up his music in his new style, which he has dubbed Maximal (meaning the best of everything).
Currently Larry Tee is planning his festival, the Dance Music Invasion 2007, which is the start of a yearly event. Its goal is to bring together the international nightclub culture and to bring the focus back to New York as the center of the nightclubbing universe. Though similar in nature to festivals in Miami, Barcelona, and Amsterdam, the sprit of this event is to inspire the next generation of producers and artists as well as acknowledge the dance music mainstream that keep the nightclubs vital. Larry is also putting the finishing touches on a new collection, 'Maximal Larry Tee,' to be released in the summer of 2007 featuring collaborations with Princess Superstar, Herve, Sebastien Leger, Amanda Lepore, Christopher Just, Princess Julia, Tomboy, and 8 year-old Amanita to name but a few. You can hear him spin weekly at his Saturday night soiree' The BANK in NYC. In 2007, Larry Tee is definitely a man to watch.
