With numerous strings to his musical bow and already boasting his own record label, radio show, world-class productions and DJ appearances flanking many of the DJ greats, it is evident that, at the age of just 24, Jon Gurd is already becoming a highly respected artist.
2007 has seen Jon spinning in clubs across the globe, including Punchfunk in Lithuania, the Kupe Club in Aarhus in Denmark, and as far afield as Guanzhou in China. He has also undertaken 3 tours throughout Russia, playing at clubs such as Sugar Club in Moscow, Fresh44 in Vladimir and no less than four tours of Brazil already under his belt, where his rise in profile has been no less than meteoric playing to 15,000 people in Sao Paulo, Rio, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Goiania and Campinas, with the next 3 week tour already confirmed during January 2008.
On home turf his stints at UK clubs up and down the length of Britain have really catapulted Jon up in the ranks. He has made numerous guest appearances at clubs including Sankey’s in Manchester, the notoriously hip Mint Club in Leeds, Birmingham’s Custard Factory, Drift in Portsmouth, Zebra Club in Hull and Stealth in Nottingham. He is also a regular playing for Club Class at Ministry of Sound, London and The Loft in Kent, not forgetting London’s finest, Turnmills and The Key. Jon is also resident for the awesome Punchfunk in his hometown of Portsmouth.
As a producer, Gurd’s music has been creating tremors on some of the world’s greatest dancef loors where he has performed with some of house music’s heavy weight DJ’s including James Zabiela, Hernan Cattaneo, Lee Burridge, Nic Fanciulli, Desyn Masiello and Paul Woolford.
Gurd’s first track ‘Future’ released in August 2005 received Radio One airplay from Fergie, whilst the massive ‘Lemon Sherbert’ found its way onto Sander Kleinenberg's ‘Everybody Part 3’ mix and again his track ‘Mind Control’ onto Paul Woolford’s October 2005 Essential Mix.
Remix wise, Jon is generating musical airwaves across the industry. His remix of Random House Project’s ‘Freakin Me’ for Cr2 reached number 1 on the DJ download chart, and number 4 in the Beatport chart, whilst his remix of James Talk’s ‘Warm Milk’ written with Dave Robertson help the top spot in the Beatport tech house chart for 2 weeks.
As if that wasn’t enough Jon also runs ‘Bass for Breakfast’ and the new ‘Killawatt’ record labels. The first release to come from his Killawatt label was Dave Robertson & Jon Gurd ‘Camel / Thai Chilli’ but undoubtedly the highlight so far has to be when Jon and Dave produced one of the biggest tracks of 2006 ???The Rendition??? which featured on The Essential Mix every night during the Ibiza weekend, courtesy of Carl Cox, Pete Tong, Seb Fontaine and Steve Lawler. The 3rd single ???Another T??? was then signed to Cr2, and Jon is currently hard at work in the studio writing his new EP for his label Kill a Watt
In between, DJing all over the world, running a record label and producing superb tracks Jon still manages to fit in hosting 2 radio shows; Ministry of Sound Radio on Fridays night/Sat Mornings between 1 – 3am.
There’s little doubt that Jon Gurd is set for great things, he certainly won’t be taking any breathers in the near future, watch this space.
