Debuting on the decks seven years ago, Gabby says being a female DJ was a double-edged sword. The "novelty" factor got you a foot in the door but if you didn't represent then and there, it quickly got slammed in your face.
"It was disheartening that people assumed you didn't have the skills because you were a woman or because of what you looked like or what you wore, but it gave me drive and pushed me to be better technically."
Her dedication to DJing paid off and soon she was spinning at some of Sydney's biggest clubbing institutions, with residencies at Sounds on Sunday, Kink and Nevermind in addition to regular sets at Church of Techno, S.A.S.H and WHAM!
Before DJing, Gabby made her mark as a professional dancer at the age of 17, working on music videos and in clubs, (which is where she discovered the art of DJing). Gabby still runs her dance school, Elevate Performing Arts and if that wasn't enough to keep her busy, she also launched her boutique fashion label Trois in 2010 to rave reviews. Trois is now stocked in over 30 stores in Australia and overseas!
Additionally, she's been busy in the studio on new tracks, following up on collaborations with Elroy and Piper ('Point n Clap' - #2 ARIA Club Charts) and Craig Obey ('Gonna Have To Pay' - #7 ARIA Club Charts).
Clearly the girl doesn't sleep, but while she loves having her fingers in multiple pies, she says she gets the biggest buzz when they're on her CDJs in front of a room full of clubbers.
"The energy you're giving back to each other is a pretty amazing feeling," she beams. "When you're playing for two hours, you get that time to show people what your point of view is. They can feel something and when they do and it's reciprocated... there's a real joy in that. It's giving and receiving. There's so much energy in the air - you get high from it!"
