The future looks very bright indeed for Cosmic Boogie – the pseudonym of choice for 32 year-old Liverpudlian Stu Robinson and much checked blog of the same name. Thanks to a string of acclaimed re-edits and reworks, Cosmic Boogie is one of the rising names of the global disco scene.
As a producer, Cosmic Boogie has released a number of singles on both the super-hot Disco Deviance label and his own self-titled imprint, re-crafting lesser known classics into slow-burning dancefloor bombs. His first single, featuring two deliciously cosmic re-rubs of tracks by The Undisputed Truth and Charles Jackson, hit dancefloors in the spring of 2009. Since then, his stock has continued to rise, thanks in no small part to a killer 12” on Disco Deviance that included Greg Wilson’s “track of the year”. ‘Feels Good (You Got The Love)’ – an inspired blend of Electra’s ‘Feels Good’ and Candi Staton’s anthemic ‘You Got The Love’ – was one of the disco hits of ’09, smashing up festivals and clubs across the globe. Cosmic Boogie’s third double A-side, ‘The Users’/’Youngblood’, is to be released in April 2010.
On the back of the success of his productions, record label and blog, Cosmic Boogie has become an in-demand DJ, with dates across the UK and Europe. Over the past 12 months he has played headline slots in Warsaw, Dublin, London, Newcastle, Brighton, Bristol, Manchester and, of course, hometown Liverpool. Here, he is resident and promoter at the city’s acclaimed Archive night. He also regularly DJs back-to-back with good friend Dicky Trisco under the Disco Deviance moniker.
His DJ style reflects his productions, combining slo-mo boogie, groove-laden disco, original electro, nu-disco, house and more in a thrill-a-minute ride that’ll move the head just as much as the feet. Adept at reading the situation thanks to a decade-plus experience behind the decks, he prides himself on getting a crowd moving – whether they’re into 100 BPM groovers or hands-in-the-air disco bangers.
With more releases expected throughout 2010 and 2011, and the blogand imprint growing from strength to strength, Cosmic Boogie is a name you’ll be hearing a lot more about in coming months.
