Collagey first began to seriously develop his skill in 1998 after
being influenced by such artists as DJ Shadow, Pieter K, and Coldcut.
Since that time Collagey has grown a great deal, conquering the San
Diego music scene with raw skill and determination.
Looped vocal phrases and thick gospel ditties laid on top of distorted
beatbox-style rhythms and scratching thats elaborated by electronic
meandering, characterizes just a small portion of DJ Collageys set,
recorded on one hour-long track for his release "Hip Trip For
Flip-Floppers". His CD represents an evolution of music through
multiple decades, including sounds from the eras of Motown, funk,
disco, soul, jazz, blues, hip hop, and electronica.
DJ Collagey documents a virtual encyclopedia of musical styles, woven seamlessly
together along his creative journey. He has inaugurated an intuitive
way to transition from genre to genre, melding them together as
comfortably as if they had always been bedfellows. Opening for acts
such as The Black Eyed Peas, The Movemeant, Killah Priest, Reid Speed,
and Adam F, as well as having long term residencies with Thrusters,
Beat Parlor, and Soul Glo, Collagey has proven that he is not only
eclectic but driven for nothing but success.
