Beto Cohen was born in Mexico, 1976, the son of actress and singer Malu Galan, he was destined to be involved in a creative environment. He started to play guitar and Drums in bands from the age of 12 and by the time he was 20 he had set up his own studio, production company and a modelling agency in Guadalajara, Mexico.
In 2002 moves to London in pursuit of greater challenges as he discovers his passion for electronic sounds. He immediately got involved in the dance scene and produces the track “Run” witch has been used in the US hit TV series CSI.
Some of the productions and remixes include names like Laurent Garnier, Dino Lenny, Feeder, Dejae, to name a few and his recent collaboration with Meck “Feels like home” witch entered the UK top 40, played from Tiesto to Deep Dish and Mashed up by Madonna Live on her Sweet & Sticky World tour 2008.
His work can be described as Tech, minimal, House influenced by German electronica. In 2007 he joins the roster of Wow! Records the label of Mat-T (Amnesia Ibiza Resident) alongside Paco Osuna, Valentino Kansyani, Tobi Neumann and few others, and releases Destination EP part 1, (“Xuplak” and “Someday”). Xuplak has been included in playlists of M.A.N.D.Y, Karotte, Gregor Tresher, Steve Lawler, to name a few, also Xuplak remixed by Karotte (Cocoon resident and one of Germany’s finest DJ’s) has been included in the Love Family Park 2007 complation, one of the most important open air festivals in Germany, the soundtrack includes tracks from Sven Vath, Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Gabriel Ananda, Plastikman, Magda, amongst others.
Xuplak has also been included on the Ibiza Global Radio compilation mixed by David and Toni Moreno. “Someday” also a part of Destination EP has been included in the Amnesia Underground 7 Compilation mixed by Mar-T and Tobi Neumann. Destination EP part 2 includes remixes by Llorca and Mar-T.
He Then colaborates with Ivan Escura and Toni Varga and releases the EP Attack-Atrap, “Atrap” has been included in the Amnesia Ibiza Best Global Club compilation mixed by Mar-T and John Dahlback. Attack, Xuplak and Skylights (Betoko RMX) have been featured on the cover mount CD of DJ Magazine Spain. Other recent remixes include Mar-T “Away from distances”, Soulflex “Skylights” and Toni Varga “XXX”.
The next single “Hoook” was released beginning of 2008 with remixes from Martinez and Mar-T and it is part of his debut album “Identity Crisis” . “Identity Crisis” is a fusion of Electro-Tech House, packed with hypnotic melodies, catchy hooks, funky bass lines and groovy beats. With 10 tracks and 10 remixes and collaborations “Identity Crisis” is the first Solo Artist Album to be released on Wow! Records.
“Raindrops” and “Morgan” included in “Identity Crisis” were been picked by Mar-T for the Amnesia Ibiza Underground 8 Compilation, and Steve Lawler has used Xuplak for his Viva Toronto Mix compilation out on Renasseince Records.
The next single from the album is “Raindrops” was released at the end of summer 2008 with remixes by Dino Lenny, Levan and Agent Toga.
The September 2008 Issue of DJ Magazine Features Betoko as one of the Fantastic Four, which refers to the 4 hottest names in dance music for that period quoting “Mexican Minimal Man Makes Melodic Meisterwork”
In the end of 2008 the legendary award winning label Eukatech picks uo Betoko’s “Guayabero EP” to relaunch it’s operation. Eukatech also releases “H30 EP” with a remix from Tigerskin and Betoko’s collaboration with Mar-T (Honey Mono) “WHAP” with remix from Gregor Tresher.
After a series of successful productions released on Toolroom, Eukatech and Wow! Records. Betoko launches his own sound-child, OKO recordings.
