"Named after a Nigerian state capital, Benin City is Theo Buckingham on drums, Faye Treacy on trombone, Tom Leaper
on tenor sax, and Joshua Idehen on rhymes. Joshua met Theo Buckingham at a squat party. They struck up a loud
friendship and decided to make more organised noises together. Theo and Faye originally met at The Brit School, their
paths crossing again in 2009 when Josh asked Faye to join his new musical project. Excited by the sound, Faye drafted
in Tom, a like minded friend from The Royal Academy of Music.
Within their relatively short career as a band, they have supported bands such as Fool's Gold, Tinashe, Yungun, Sound
of Rum and Kid British. They've been played on BBC 3's The Verb and Huey Morgan's BBC6 show. Their vibrant and
energetic performances have garnered them a loyal following, including John Kennedy (XFM), Huey Morgan (Fun
Loving Criminals, BBC6), Mark Lamarr and Craig Charles.
At the beginning of 2012 Benin City joined independent, typically electronic label AD (Audio Doughnuts) on a new
journey. They will be releasing their new EP in 2012 and are currently working on an album"
