Lisbon is fast becoming one of the world's best places to party. And with festivals like Lisboa Electronica and LISB-ON, as well as clubs like Ministerium and Lux-Frágil, it's easy to see why.

But for all the new attention, the Portuguese capital still remains something of an off-beat destination, full of hidden hotspots and lesser known clubs.

So we asked four artists from Lisbon's thriving underground dance music community for their insight. Thoese include Jorge Caiado, a veteran of the Portuguese electronic music scene; Temudo, one of Portugal's new generation of techno innovators; Hayes Collective founder VIL; and Lisboa Electronica and Ministerium regular ZOY.

Together, they tell us about their favourite places to eat, drink and party in Lisbon, as well as who they want to see at April's Lisboa Electronica.

JORGE CAIADO

EAT

For those who like to eat the best and fresh fish in the world, Pesca is specialized in seafood. And although it is not for every wallet, it’s a hell of an experience.

DRINK

I’d say Bar Capitão Leitão in the east part of the city. It’s a beautiful and cozy bar where you can find the best hosts around serving some kick ass cocktails while listening to some lovely 12’’s that are always spinning on the turntables.

PARTY

Europa would be my small size club suggestion. It breathes the true underground spirit of Lisbon’s electronic music scene. For a bigger room with no surprises I’d say Lux-Frágil as their main floor has one of the best sound systems I’ve ever heard in my life. That dance floor is the dreamland of any electronic music lover.

DON’T MISS

If I had to choose just one, for this edition I’d say Baby Ford.

ZOY

EAT

Jesus é Goês has great Indian food right in the center of Lisbon.

DRINK

Micro Club. I mean the name's place speaks by itself. Proper music, proper soundsystem.

PARTY

Ministerium Club. The guys are doing an amazing work. Booking local DJs and trying to be update with what is going on underground movement!

DON'T MISS

Gonçalo (Helena Showcase) at Lisbon Electronica. Awesome Module Werk EP. Great music!

TEMUDO

EAT

Água no Bico is a pastry shop and cafeteria specialising in vegetarian, vegan, raw and paleo. Daily, fresh, probiotic, gluten-free, lactose-free products, without refined sugars, produced from ingredients mostly from organic farming.

DRINK

The Pink Street has many options, and the street itself has a proper nice and crazy energy. In Europa for example, you can hear from drum & bass to house, with established and new artists.

PARTY

I just feel good in Ministerium. I also believe that it is the club that is giving more support to the national scene right now. From house to techno, has a well crafted schedule.

DON’T MISS

-2 [menosdois] is one of the most (if not the most) interesting Techno live acts in Portugal. They have the ability to deconstruct their tracks in tiny pieces and rearranging them live, having truly control of what is happening.

VIL

EAT

Zé da Mouraria has the best traditional Portuguese food, from fish to meat.

DRINK

Damas is a really good place for for drinking craft beer and spending time with your friends.

PARTY

Lux Frágil. I don't think I need to talk about this place… It’s the best in town.

DON’T MISS

ZOY & Berllioz playing live back-to-back. They’re the best house music live act in Portugal now days, friends and one of the artists I respect the most.

Lisboa Electronica takes place at LX FACTORY AND Ministerium from April 4th - 7th. Get tickets here.
