It’s high noon before the inaugural elrow showdown at The Sheds in Johannesburg on March 17th, which promises to be an unforgettable music experience for SA punters.
Along with the top-drawer local lineup, elrow are bringing host their residents—who have carved elrow sound—to the City of Gold along with the crazy antics and decor the brand is well-known for.
Ahead of the first-ever elrow SA tour kicking off tomorrow, we take a look at the headliners and discover why they’ve been chosen as the sheriffs at the Far West themed elrow event this weekend.
German DJ and producer Nick Curly broke through as an international act in 2008, raising his profile to become one of the most recognisable names in underground dance music. As the owner of the prolific Cécille Records and co-owner of 8bit with fellow Mannheim producer Gorge—who he’s worked with for over 12 years—Curly is considered an essential pillar in the underground dance music scene in Europe.
Toni Varga is a well-known DJ at top Ibiza clubs like Amnesia, Pacha and the now defunct Space, whose musical style fits perfectly with the true spirit of the island. As a long-running member of the elrow family, Varga’s blend of warm and elegant tech house has seen him play at major festivals like Creamfields and Monegros, making him one of the top tech house DJs in the world.
A more recent addition to the elrow residents, Bastian Bux emerged on the scene in 2015 with his Stay EP on Coyu’s Suara imprint. Travelling the world with the elrow family, Bux has played Tomorrowland, ADE and The Warehouse Project amongst many other parties in Europe, the Middle East, America, Asia and Oceania.
After DJing as Marc Huardi in the late ‘90s, Marc Maya’s Narkotic D’lux parties took Barcelona by storm, leading him to a residency at one of the world’s oldest techno clubs, Florida 135 in Fraga, Spain. In 2008, he then joined the owner of Monegros, Florida 135 and KER Club—one of Spain’s best promoters—Juan Arnau to start the famous Row 14, the birthplace of elrow. Having been part of the elrow family since its inception, Maya has a full understanding of the spirit and ethos of the world-renowned party brand.
As one of the youngest producers to reach number one on Beatport’s Top 100 chart, Edu Imbernon has had a fruitful career thanks to his releases on labels like Get Physical, Diynamic, Liebe*Detail and Noir Music. Blending house, indie and electronica, Imbernon has played festivals like Sonar, Tomorrowland and Coachella, as well as the world’s finest clubs like fabric, Watergate and Warung, bringing his unique sound to enthused audiences around the world.
