2017 has been a monumental year for UK DJ, and producer, Corey James. From beginning until the end, the year was well spent with non-stop gigs and festivals across the globe, and countless quality music making hours in the studio.

The Liverpool lad kick started 2017 with a string of releases including “RIU” via NoFace Records, “With You” through Size Records, and “Bring It” via Protocol Records. And now, James tops 2017 with a stellar collaboration with Israelis, Teamworx called “Funky Music”.

His latest dance floor banger is one of the many he has released via Steve Angello’s Size Records since signing on the label a couple of months ago. We had a chat with the rising electronic artist on his favourite hangover remedy, sushi, and his legendary childhood idol.

Worst advice you ever got: I got told that DJing in local clubs was the best way to get out there and get bookings. I totally ignored this and started producing music instead; I didn’t really pay attention to what was happening in my local city.

Longest set you’ve ever DJed: So far, three hours is the longest. However I would love to do a super long extended set like five hours that would showcase my deeper after-hours sound.

Name your childhood idol: I was a big football fan when I was a kid, so probably David Beckham.

Your idol now: I have a few including Steve Angello and Eric Prydz, but the list goes on.

Dish you’re best at cooking: Chicken dishes as that’s pretty much all I eat.

Your go-to after party weapon: Antranig - Won't Stop Rocking.

The album you listen to when you need to chill out after a big weekend: I love listening to Drake, The Weeknd, NAV, and Party Next Door.

The song you’d play at the apocalypse: That’s easy, Tom Staar and Kryder’s ‘Apocalypse’ remix.

Something you tried once and will never try again: Sushi.

Favourite track to get stoned to: My own.

That moment you realised that electronic dance music was going to be a career: 2012 October, Steve Angello at Cream Nation, Liverpool.

If you could live in any decade: 2012 for house music but I’m happy living in the present.

The dance record that started it all for you: I can’t remember but I used to listen to a lot of old school classics and trance.

Tiësto or Armin van Buuren: Tough question. Both are legends, but from recent sets I’ll go with AvB.

Best hangover remedy: Water, fresh air and good food.

The song you love to hate: I don’t really hate on much music, I appreciate it all, even if it’s not my personal choice.

Transformers or G.I Joe: Transformers.

The most WTF thing you’ve ever seen at a club: When I was in Asia somebody bought something silly like 888 bottles in a club, of course you can’t drink that much in one night, but, the club kept the bottles in their name for the next time they return. Now that’s pretty crazy and expensive if you ask me haha.

The first album you ever bought with your own money: Believe it or not, 50 Cent’s Get Rich Or Die Trying.
