For their first new release since 2014, Berlin-based duo Chopstick & Johnjon have teamed up with American vocalist CeCe Rogers on "What Is House Music," the lead track for their new EP, Momentum.

The EP comes via the duo's own label Suol, and sees them take a back-to-basics approach. Rather than spend hours tweaking and editing on software, the pair improvised on hardware for days on end, recording the results.

The live jam approach clearly worked. Featuring the vocals of "Someday" singer CeCe Rogers, "What Is House Music" is a no-frills, loopy affair, relying on a hypnotic groove and spacey pads to draw you in as Rogers' vocals echo in the background.

As Chopstick & Johnjon tell it:

This EP is a very dear release to us. We got in the studio and had days of jam sessions where we would just turn on the hardware and improvise for hours, recording all along. It is a very spontaneous and liberating approach and it took us back to the early days where you would just try things and improvise, completely in the zone, luring out creativity. So it felt only right to ask CeCe Rogers for a vocal feature on "What Is House Music."
