Because Björk is probably the coolest woman on the planet, the Icelandic singer divulged an incredible detail to FACT recently.
Speaking with the music website, Björk said she was in Spain, and RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan was supposed to meet her there to record.
“RZA was supposed to come," she said. "But then months passed. Then the album got finished and I delivered it. Then RZA was like, 'I’m ready! Shall I come to Spain?'"
Eventually they met up, and actually recorded. "I really think what we made was magic," Björk continued. But despite the magic, she admitted the songs they wrote were “better as an idea.”
She also said she doesn't see Wu-Tang as a hip hop group, and spoke about hanging out with them in New York City, where the group is from.
“In my eyes, they’re punk,” she said. “We are definitely [similar] – we do things in, like, a ritual way. The good thing was that I got to hang out with them. I got to see Wu-Tang’s version of New York. Which was pretty cool. A very specific angle on that city that I feel very blessed to have experienced.”
So no Wu-Björk songs exist, and that's a bummer. But picturing Björk and RZA in the studio together is one of the happiest thoughts we've had all year. Which is certainly worth a lot. Plus she has an amazing new album called Utopia out now.
And because Björk is definitely the coolest woman on Earth, she revealed that she secretly traded songs with Aphex Twin via email "all the time" not long ago too.
