Events collective Music People is bringing four internationals to South Africa at a variety of parties in Cape Town and Johannesburg this year, at a variety of unique venues across the country.
Having already hosted Dixon and James Monro earlier this year, the brand continues its campaign of pushing the envelope and allowing South African music fans to experience the best electronic acts on the planet—with a boutique, pop-up approach for each event.
With a stellar season on the way, we take a look at how Music People is leading the pack in electronic music events this year.
Having held residencies at clubs like Watergate in Berlin, Studio 80 in Amsterdam and Ego in Hamburg, HOSH is a staple of German label Diynamic—co-founded by Pacha favourite, Solomun. With an unmistakably restrained approach, he provides unintrusive beats for the discerned ear, remixing for prolific labels like Poker Flat and Neurotraxx. HOSH plays in Cape Town with Music People on Sunday, October 29th.
After playing at Hi Ibiza with Black Coffee, as well as the closing of legendary Ibiza club Amnesia, Rampue arrives in South Africa in November for two exclusive gigs in Johannesburg and Cape Town. As the owner of Audiolith Records, he has taken his live performances as far as Beirut, Kiev and Istanbul, as well as Black Rock City for the annual Burning Man. Rampue headlines at Al Lado in Johannesburg on November 3rd and the Grand Full Moon Party in Cape Town on November 4th.
Arguably the biggest techno act of the last 2 years, Stephan Bodzin has redefined live techno performances, and his productions have brought many fans to the genre around the world. The veteran artist is one of the most sought-after acts in the world at the moment, having played Antwerp, Amsterdam, Shanghai, Tokyo, Beirut, Stockholm, Madrid, Tbilisi, Prague and Basel in the last two months, arriving in SA with Music People in December.
Hamburg native Stimming is one of the most recognisable electronic artists in the world. With a catalogue of innovative, forward-thinking songs he has been of the cutting edge of electronic music for over 10 years, and continues to impress to this day. Although Stimming is no stranger to South Africa—having been here on many occasions for a plethora of parties and events—he is still widely regarded as a pioneer in the electronic music spectrum. Stimming arrives at a secret location in Cape Town December 7th and Truth in Johannesburg on December 9th.
With a finite amount of music venues in country, finding the ideal space to host an event can be tough and promoters generally have to settle for a space that is as close to what they want as possible. But this also opens up the opportunity for organisers to get creative and think outside the box. With this in mind, Music People host HOSH at the Truth Coffee in Cape Town on October 29th, showcasing the culinary skills of the steampunk-styled restaurant throughout the day.
Located in Maboneng, Johannesburg, Al Lado is a warm and intimate candlelit bar in the heart of the city. Offering a selection of award winning cocktails and tapas all crafted from the highest quality ingredients, the rustic charm of this low-key venue makes the Rampue gig on November 3rd a unique experience for inner-city punters.
Pop-up Fashion Stalls
Music People brings fashion, art and food together to enhance its world-class music experiences. And at the HOSH event on October 29th, punters will be able to purchase items from various designers on the day—giving people the opportunity to engage with local designers and take home a piece of local fashion.
Tattoo Artists and Barbers
Bringing art to life on October 29th, local tattoo artists and barbers will be offering their services at the event in Cape Town. With such a variety of different creations on display, the Cape Town event with HOSH promises to be much more than just a high-quality music experience.
