The man who introduced us to electronic music is coming to Cielo, and this show will be unmissable. Two time Grammy Award nominee Paul Oakenfold has been a pillar of the dance music community since 1987 when he and friends Johnny Walker, Danny Rampling and Nicky Holloway took that fateful trip to Ibiza to see DJ Alfredo at Amnesia, launching an acid house revolution.
Oakey went on to become one of the world’s leading trance DJs, selling out stadiums across the globe, before parlaying his immense success into Hollywood glory with soundtrack work and crossover hits. He was even the first ever guest DJ to record an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, and became the first DJ to play Mount Everest earlier this year. Now Oakenfold is looking back on 30 years of music with his Generations tour, which lands at Cielo this Friday and commemorates that fateful trip to Ibiza three decades ago this year and changed everything for a generation—and many to come.
This will be a night no dance fan wants to miss. Here’s why.
HE’S GOING LARGE
With 30 years of music and memories to traverse, Oakenfold will play a full three hour set, crisscrossing some of his greatest hits and forgotten gems from genres far and wide. .
HE’S NOT AN EDM ACT

“Look, I’m not an EDM act. I don’t want to be a pop star,” he told Billboard earlier this year. Despite Oakey’s fame, he’s remained true to his roots, and will be bringing that straightforward musical sensibility to Ceilo on Friday night.
BUT THERE’S A REASON HE’S A MEGA-STAR
Paul might not want to be a pop star, but long before EDM came along, Oakenfold was about as close to pop stardom as any DJ had ever been back in the day—and for good reason. There’s nothing else in the world like Oakenfold on top form behind the decks.
AND HE’S PLAYING CIELO
From the Hollywood Bowl to Wembley Stadium to Cream at the giant Amnesia in Ibiza, Oakenfold has played some of the biggest venues in the world. But this time he’s at one of America’s most celebrated intimate nightclubs, Cielo, giving you the chance to dance up close and personal with dance music royalty.
FROM GOA TO BUNKKA
Few acts have traversed so many styles, from early goa trance to stadium anthems, Oakenfold is sure to have more than a few tricks up his sleeve. Will you be there to watch it happen?
