Mad Decent head honcho Diplo concludes his five-stop tour of Africa this weekend at the Fox Junction in Johannesburg. After performing in Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya and Nigeria, the electronic music heavyweight is set to rock this once-off event in the City of Gold.
This is how it went down in Kenya.
The moombahton and Jamaican influences seem to have gone down well with the African audiences. And having been to South Africa before, you can be sure he’ll pull out all the stops for his final performance in Africa.
Diplo, short for Diplodocus, exploded onto the global charts in 2007 after co-producing the hit-single “Paper Planes” for Sri-Lankan/British artist M.I.A with British record producer Switch. The production duo went to to create the highly influential electronic act Major Lazer and recorded Diplo’s first full-length album in Jamaica under this guise.
Having founded the Mad Decent record label in 2005, Diplo has produced for artists like Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Britney Spears and Wale, and also released the YouTube sensation “Harlem Shake” by US producer Baauer. Diplo also formed Jack Ü with fellow producer Skrillex, winning two Grammy’s last year.
Tickets for this once-off event are available from Nutickets. Pulse also have three pairs of tickets to giveaway for this epic party this weekend.
