Planned Parenthood has been in the news a lot recently in the United States. With the shitshow in the White House forever looming, threatening to pull funding for the essential sexual and reproductive health clinic non-profit, people from all walks of life have begun to mobilize to ensure its survival.

A collective of musicians, comedians, visual artists and speakers have announced the release of a forthcoming project titled 7-inches for Planned Parenthood, a compilation of audio and visual art that’s been created and curated specifically to benefit the community health care provider.

Each single will present two sides of music, comedy, or spoken word, accompanied by a unique piece of artwork. The series will feature music from Mary J. Blige, CHVRCHES, Foo Fighters, Sleater-Kinney, Common, Feist, John Legend, Bon Iver, Björk, St. Vincent, Matt Berninger of the National, Estelle and more.

7-inches will be released in batches digitally in the coming weeks and will also be available as a vinyl box set, with 100% of proceeds from streaming and vinyl sales going towards Planned Parenthood.

Other contributors include comedians and speakers Margaret Cho, Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianakis, Tig Notaro, Pete Holmes, dream hampton, Jenny Slate and Heather McGee. Visual art will be provided by the likes of Shepard Fairey, Azar Kazimir, Rashid Johnson, Hisham Akira Bharoocha and other talented artists. You can see the full list below:

"Lawmakers with extreme views are working hard to shut down Planned Parenthood. If they succeed, millions of Americans will lose access to basic health services, including STD testing and treatment, birth control, and life-saving cancer screenings," the project explained in a public statement.

"7-inches for Planned Parenthood is a response to this threat. This curated series of 7-inch vinyl records is being made by a group of people who believe that access to health care is a public good that should be fiercely protected. Do we know there’s a joke in the name? We do. We hope the title evokes the rich history of 7-inch vinyl records as a medium for protest music and resistance."

It’s no news that we’re trudging through tough times here in the U.S., but if there’s any good to come from it, witnessing so many powerful voices work in unison towards something greater is a definite silver lining. 7-inches for Planned Parenthood is the latest installment in a string of efforts made by the creative community to fight back against unpopular and discriminatory moves made by the Trump Administration. Whether through ACLU benefit concerts or Planned Parenthood charity albums, it’s exactly the kind of light we need in these dark hours.

"We're incredibly grateful to have the support of so many artists and entertainers, many of them who have themselves relied on us for health care," said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. "Planned Parenthood has been around for 100 years, and one in five women in America have turned to us for care. Planned Parenthood has stood defiantly in the face of opposition for a century, and we're not backing down now.“
