Japan’s electronic music industry is gathering for its inaugural summit, Tokyo Dance Music Event on the first weekend of December.
Industry players from all over the world will meet at Shibuya’s Hikarie Hall A for the three-day event this coming December. While the first day will focus on the live side of the business—touring, clubs and festivals, the second day will see talks and conferences about music marketing, subscription streaming, and new revenue models in Asia.
Among the announced speakers are the high-profile DJ and label-manager Nina Kraviz, Sony Music marketing manager Toby Andrews and Global Hearts managing director Daizo Murata.
The so-called TDME Sessions will take place at the Red Bull Studios in Shibuya, offering different workshops and masterclasses from Ableton Meetup Tokyo and Toolroom Academy Live, and a techno production 101 with slovenian DJ and producer Umek.
Like many other music conferences, the Tokyo Dance Music Event will see various music performances across four different venues—Boiler Room at Hikarie Hall, Sound Museum Vision, Womb and Contact, with sets from synth legend Giorgio Moroder, Claptone, Umek and Thylacine among others.
The Tokyo Dance Music Event caps a year of major electronic music industry conferences in Asia, highlighting a keen interest and urgency form the the US and European dance music industry to start looking east. With the TDME joining IMS Asia-Pacific and ADE Global Sessions Mumbai, we're certainly going to see more and more growth in the Asian dance music market over the next few years.
