As African electronic music artists dive further into the heart of dance music scene around the world, their presence will be felt in a big way at this year's premier music conference; the world renowned Amsterdam Dance Event, better known as ADE.
Consisting of events, workshops and talks, ADE runs from the 19th to the 23rd of October in the Dutch capital. The annual 5-day event sees over 2,200 artists flock to Amsterdam to perform in 120 of the best clubs in the city. The shows attract over 350,000 people to the Netherlands every year and has become one of the most important events on the dance music calendar since its inception in 1996.
Before the event kicks off tomorrow, here are a few South African artists who will be showcasing their skills at the prestigious city-wide event, some of which will be making their debut at ADE.
No stranger to the city, Floyd is taking his acclaimed Rise party to Kop Stoot Bar in Amsterdam. Previously held at Watergate in Berlin, Rise has become the ultimate African dance music showcase, frequently bringing top-class African and international artists to their unique parties.
It's been a fantastic year for spoken word artist/poet The Lazarusman, playing at Solar Open Air Festival in Lisbon as well as a handful of Rise shindigs as well. He has become the piece de resistance of any live performance, allowing his thought provoking lyrics to entice and energise the crowds.
No surprises here. The jet-setter DJ Black Coffee is now a prominent name within the dance music industry, playing the hottest parties on the globe week in and week out. He joins the Boiler Room x Bridges For Music event for an exciting African showcase during the ADE weekend at the Atelier venue in Amsterdam as well as Red Bull at Night Presents: Playroom at a secret location.
The Boiler Room x Bridges For Music event will be a pivotal moment in this young artist's career. Audiojerk will be playing his first gig outside of his hometown alongside heavyweights Blond:ish, Satori and his fellow South Africans, Black Coffee and Ryan Murgatroyd; an exciting step forward for the Cape Town local.
ADE 2016 is going to be a big one for Ryan Murgatroyd as he gears up to play both the Boiler Room x Bridges For Music charity event as well as Goldfish's Tipping The Scales alongside Mome, Proper Reka and the "Fishies" themselves. And all this off the back of the Down Dog EP release on Get Physical on the 21st of this month!
As previously mentioned, Goldfish will be hosting their Tipping The Scales party at the Melkweg Amsterdam venue on October 22nd. Goldfish are no doubt at the top of their game and are currently on a mission to play every state in the USA! They will have played London, Birmingham and Sweden before arriving in Amsterdam for their very own ADE event.
Fresh from the Destino closing party on the White Isle, Shimza continues his fine form, playing the Djoon Experience alongside Manoo, Mr Raoul K, DJ Greg Gauthier, John Agesilas and Afshin Djoon. This is another powerhouse line-up for ADE, taking place at the eccentric Canvas club.
The omnipresent visionary Spoek Mathambo, vocal songbird Mantiega and afro-house maestro Aero Manyelo are collectively known as Batuk. A creative artistic collaboration that draws on Pan-African influences for inspiration and merges it together into a unique tasting of a nu-motherland renaissance. Be sure to catch them at Enchufada Label Night - Tickets To The Tropics at ADE.
Salute To Our Artist! Proudly South African!
