Halloween weekend is going to be a good one for Singapore collective, TropicLab. Head honcho, James Riach, will be flying over to Hong Kong’s Social Room for a collaborative club night with collective Tag&Nacht on October 28th.
The Social Room’s underground vibe is perfect for its Halloween special, The Crypt. Combine that with the dark melodies and groovy bass lines that are signature sounds of the two crews, and party punters will get a perfect atmospheric blend on the night. Jeremy Cheung, one of Hong Kong's most prominent and revered talents, will be joining James and Kouro for the closing set.
TropicLab’s James has selected some of his favourite tunes to get you through this exciting Halloween weekend.
Kink - Chorus (Original mix) [Midnight Shift]
"From the moment I heard the promo I was instantly all over it, and it keeps on growing on me. It’s such a bright, joyous track that comes in waves and can really be slotted into any set. I first played it at Cato, Singapore, for the Midnight Shift label night a month ago and the response from the floor was great. A definite bomb track!"
Marius and David - Nur (Original mix) [Musica Autonomica]
"I don’t get the opportunity to play this out that much as I want, but when I do the response is incredible from those who appreciate this sound. The first time I played it was at Kyo, Singapore for the TropicLab anniversary last year and to hear it on a big system in a dark venue like that was really special. It’s one of those tracks I cherish because it still gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it, and the atmosphere it creates in the room when dropped at the right time makes it so worthwhile."
Gabriel D’Or & Bordoy - L.D.L.V (Ian O’Donovan Remix) [Selected Records]
"I really appreciate this remix and most of what Ian O’Donovan is making at the moment. Really heavy but melodic in all the right ways, this track has so much depth and it absolutely kills the floor."
Jeremy Cheung + Fresh Funky S - Ngau Japp (Original Mix) [Typhoon Records]
"I got a chance to play alongside Jeremy at Haan’s Left Bank night at Cato a couple of months ago and was totally blown away by his set. It was so banging and he’s so technical, and it’s no surprise that his first productions are looking the same. The Butcher EP is his freshest release on Typhoon and it’s a dark moody slow burning bomb track."
Eddie Niguel - Visions (Original mix) [Integrity Records]
"Been checking out this new Singaporean label for the past few months and this track is by far one of my favorites at the moment. It’s a steamy little dub techno number with awesome familiar throwback synth stabs and groovy perc, really fun track to drop."
