Bantwanas continue their top form with the 9th edition of the Bantwanas Sessions podcast and for their latest instalment, they have called on the expertise of one of South Africa's leading producers. Card On Spokes is a household name in South Africa, bringing a unique blend of breakbeat, trip-hop and deep house into a full spectrum barrage of quality sounds. His Lead Me To The Water EP in 2014, which included the hi-tech masterpiece Goldshine, gained massive attention for the artist around the world and was followed by the widely acclaimed Sunwalker EP in 2015. Card On Spokes adds his name to the Bantwanas Sessions with this eclectic mix.
2016 has been a big year for Shane Cooper so far, playing the Boiler Room Cape Town All-Stars party, as well as recently launching his 3rd EP As We Surface.
"As We Surface is an EP I started working on as soon as the Sunwalker EP came out last year. I felt very energised by a good year of shows, and wanted to get straight into creating again. The EP consists of 6 tracks that were inspired by states of transition, and the feeling that those states can conjure.
The music is mostly instrumental as I wanted to return to my roots as an instrumentalist, and it features parts recorded by some of my favourite musicians such as trumpeter Marcus Wyatt, drummer Jonno Sweetman, and British saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings (Floating Points, Sons Of Kemet).
There are also two vocal tracks which feature the incredible talents of Bonj Mpanza, and Siya Makuzeni respectively. I'm so happy to have been able to write songs with all these beautiful artists bringing their voices and ideas. I can't wait to share this EP with people"
