Some sad news today from Defqon 1 festival in Sydney’s west as reports emerge that a 26-year-old man has died.

Friends of the man found him unconscious in a tent at around 11.30pm last night and attempted to resuscitate him until paramedics arrived to take over. He was taken to Nepean Hospital but died shortly after arriving.

There has been no confirmation of the cause of death, but police are investigating whether drugs were involved.

Today is the last day of the three-day hard dance festival, which is headlined Hard Driver, Coone and LNY TNZ.

NSW Police are reported to have made 46 arrests for drug related offences, including busting four people for drug supply, with two of them caught with 46 pills believed to be ecstasy. This is quite a reduction from last years Defqon 1 drug busts, when 83 people were found to be in possession of illicit drugs and seven were charged with supply.

There has been no official comment from the organisers of the festival, where a man also died in 2013 after ingesting three pills.

Our condolences go out to the man’s family and friends.
