Bar the small pockets of shufflers we see at today’s house and techno events, it’s not uncommon to see vast swathes of the crowd clad in black, firing off tweets, taking videos and keeping their movements to a subdued minimum.
There’s a pervasive air of holier-than-thou ‘cool’ and this, dance music’s elitist problem, has made dance floors far too serious, far too moody and far too joyless. We just need to take a look at footage from the glory days of the acid house explosion to see what a rave should truly look like.
