A Chinese professor has been arrested for selling millions of dollars worth of drugs to clients in the US, Britain, Canada and Australia, Chinese state media reported.

After learning about the popularity of ecstasy on a trip to Australia, the man identified only as Zhang set up a chemical company in 2005 where staff manufactured "hundreds of kilograms" of methylone, a common substitute for MDMA.

"China's real-life Walter White", as he's been dubbed by state media, is believed to have made millions since beginning his operation, having sold at least 193kg of the substance to overseas customers between March and November of 2014.
