It’s going to be an exciting and very special weekend at Sankeys NYC. Friday marks the much anticipated Cocoon Recordings party with the legendary label boss, Sven Väth, and Markus Fix, along with Blkmarket’s Taimur and Fahad in Spektrum. Head back on Saturday to catch Guido Schneider and DisCern man the decks.
Facebook events were created months in advance as people have been counting down the days until Cocoon Recordings hits the Big Apple. The wait is finally over and Sven Väth and Markus Fix will be lighting up the decks on Friday. Sven Vath has been in the electronic music scene since 1981. The German DJ/producer took his first trip to Ibiza in 1980 and, using his job seeker’s allowance money, he hitchhiked from Barcelona and spent three months in the island, sleeping on beach chairs and distributing club flyers to get by. That was the summer he decided he wanted to become a DJ.
When he returned to Germany, he began DJing in his parent’s pub. He was 17. Now, he is the boss of one of the industry’s most respected labels, which has been the launch pad for the careers of Loco Dice, Martin Buttrich and Guy Gerber among others. Sven will be accompanied by Markus Finx. Finx and Sven met back in 1994 at the Omen in Frankfurt where Sven was DJing. He began DJing there in 1996 and has since played with the likes of DJ T, Tiefschwarz, Loco Dice and many more.
If you’re looking to start your week off early, Spektrum is also host to a special event on Thursday as mybeatFix presents the official launch party of SUM. SUM is a newly-launched musical platform and record label created to support fresh, upcoming and dominant artists and DJs. Currently based in the United States, SUM aims to support both local and international DJs who deliver original, high-quality material. Their mission: “Support Underground Music.”
