Ibiza’s made a name for itself in many different realms. DJs, Superclubs, beautiful beaches and bacchanalian afterparties all come to mind when discussing the balearic island but rarely does the subject of charity ever enter the conversation. Artists are always on the move, jetting off to their next global destination, the party people are usually larging it (or sleeping it off) and the island workers are doing their level best to keep up with it all while still managing to have a good time when they’re not on the job. That’s why September 18th’s “Mambo In the Mix” charity event to benefit the Ibiza and nearby Formantera’s Red Cross (or Cruz Roja as it’s known in Spanish) was such a monumental effort, and ultimately, success.

The plan was simple, reverse the usual roles of the world’s top DJ and producers by having them staff Café Mambo by bartending and serving food to lucky philanthropic guests and create a unique event that would engage people on the island to donate to a good cause. DJs like Armin van Buuren, Carl Cox, Eric Prydz, Judge Jules, Roger Sanchez, Hernan Cattaneo, Nervo, Funkagenda, Guti, Duane Harden, Jamie Jones, Woody Van Eyden, Adrian Lux, M.A.N.D.Y., Mark Fanciulli, DJ Oliver, Alex Kennon, Seth Troxler, Zdar of Cassius, Igor Marijuan from Radio Sonica all rolled up their sleeves, left their egos at the door and got involved in raising money for a great cause. As drinks were poured, and Seth and Jamie doled out the, now infamous, “Troxler Dog” fans willing to donate €50 a track were responsible for the majority of the event’s soundtrack. Ultimately Eric Prydz took over and brought the party to an exciting and appropriately massive ending.

All told, €31,472.57 was raised and distributed to the Red Cross and plans are underway to make this fundraiser a yearly fixture on the Ibizan calendar. Bravo to everyone involved, it’s nice when our scene gives a little back!
