Bloody Mary - Love Dames

For anyone that that missed Bloody Mary play for Zutekh on her Manchester debut earlier this year, all you need to know is two things: firstly, she is the bomb off and on the decks and secondly, she plays records and moves the dancefloor in a way that you definitely wouldn’t want to ever miss again. After standout sets at Sonar and One Illusion this year and most recently, the ever impeccable Wilde Agency ADE showcase, Zutekh are excited to bring her back for their fourth birthday (which you can buy tickets for here. We had a chat with her about her love of vinyl, going back to the old school and her impending set in Manchester. 

So first off, tell us a bit about your musical background and how you got into DJing? As a teenager, I was listening to rock and techno. I started to buy vinyl and to play in my room. I also started to mix in clubs a few years later. I gave a CD to a friend and he booked me for his party in one of the best clubs in France at the time and so the story began. I’m really happy to still have all my old vinyl, it’s always a pleasure to play old school music. 

How would you describe your DJ style to anyone that hasn’t heard you play before? Well I would say that I like a massive kick, dark and sexy grooves and vocals. Is that enough?

You were brought up in Paris and now reside in Berlin. Do you feel either of the scene’s environment’s have had an influence on your music? I fell in love with Berlin in 2004 and I moved there in 2005. This city is really relaxing and at the same time full of energy. No traffic, it’s green but also super cold. That´s why it helps me to spend more time in studio! The scene has NO influence on my music, the influence is my life, what I hate or love, the past and the future.

Its your second appearance at Zutekh in Manchester, you played an amazing set and you smashed the always incredible One Illusion Party at Sonar this year, did you enjoy your last experience with Zutekh and what can we expect from you this time? Wow thanks!! Im really excited to come back.. The crowd in UK especially Manchester is great!!! Humm for this time. I guess more techno! [Laughs]

As it's our Halloween party here on Saturday, how do you normally spend Halloween and what are your favourite memories? I'm French and in my country, Halloween isn´t big. It’s a new experience for me!! Looking forward to how it looks like.

Have you got any tips for the best costumes? Best costumes? Well I’m still looking for mine, Surprise! 

Tell us a bit about your label Dame Music? What was your idea behind it and where do you see it going in the future? I started Dame-Music because I wanted to produce the music I love and also to look for new talent. For me it is not easy sometimes to juggle between the studio, the gigs and the office work, but I manage to do it. The only thing which makes me sad, is the extinction of vinyl, so that’s why as a label owner I fight to keep it.
