Since Faciendo began in 2010 the tribe have been very busy with their bi weekly radio show as well as kicking off their first Faciendo parties in Dubai, Sydney and Melbourne. For their next party they head to Nomad club in London for an anything-goes event where the music will be blended throughout the night from four of the members; Desyn Masiello, Tom Morgan, balErik and Rowan Blades. I caught up with the guys to talk about what makes a Faciendo party different from their regular club gigs and what you can expect. To let you join in the fun we are giving away two pairs of passes to the event, we look forward to seeing you there!
Pulse: What can people expect for the first London Faciendo party? Tom Morgan: One of the main goals we had when starting the project was to get away from the DJ worship that's so prevalent these days, instead putting the focus back on the music. With the way we operate, it isn't so much about who's playing at the time, we're trying to encourage the crowd to trust that whatever's coming through the speakers is the best of all of our joint collections. We're also trying to cultivate an 'anything goes' vibe - both musically and at the party itsself - and encourage everyone to make a bit of an effort to dress up, leave any ego at the door and let their hair down. Without trying to get too far up our own arses, we're trying break down the existing barriers between artist and audience and create a real spirit of unity and togetherness at our parties.
How do you expect the flow of the night to go with all four of you at the decks? Desyn Masiello: Flow isnt something we are concerned about too much because unlike a back to back set where you dont really know what the others are playing, we don't play like that - we built the whole playlist of the night together and all know it inside out, so no matter who is playing you are hearing the best of all of us. I feel we are experienced enough not to do anything to disturb the flow of energy throughout the night, so how it will start and end we will leave to the night. It's good even for us to have some mystery as to what will happen.
How much time do you spend searching out tracks for a Faciendo gig? BalErik: I spend about 3-5 hours pretty much every day to look for new music, then I will thoroughly select the absolute best bits for the Faciendo gig. A bunch is already tested at various clubs, plus a lot of new bombs.
Given that you guys are all living in different cities when and what were you guys up to the last time you saw each other? Tom Morgan: Myself, Desyn and Row aren't too far apart, I've been down to Brighton a few times recently to visit the studio rip vinyl, sort out some Fac-related stuff or just lie about watching films. Erik spends about as much time in London as I do, so we see plenty of each other, although it has been a while since the lot of us met up. However, now that we've started pushing the Faciendo Soundsystem, doing regular parties here and are ironing out the finer points of a residency in New York, it should give us more of an opportunity to get everyone in the same place and will hopefully produce a few memorable parties and afters along the way.
When you aren't DJing at the party what will you be doing? Dancing, drinking, clowning around of all of the above? Rowan Blades: Hopefully catching up with friends we don't get to see that often and getting to know new faces I've never met before, along with standing around the booth thinking about the next hours worth of tunes/flow of the night and hopefully looking like an idiot dressed up as something stupid.
