Strange Attraction EP feat. Thomas Gandey
Get Physical Music releases a new EP from Canadian duo Blond:ish called Strange Attractions, featuring two originals called “Voyeur” and “Distant Lover”. The release is a deep, emotive work that screams Get Physical. Labels often struggle to maintain a consistent sound and still evolve musically, but this never seems to be the case for Get Physical. Perhaps it’s their experience and heavy back-catalog of hits that has given them the wisdom to choose quality releases, but nevertheless, they know what they are doing. Blond:ish lives up to their end of the bargain and delivers one of my favorite compositions from them to date. Their sound has always been exceptional, even in their early releases, but Strange Attractions is truly a testament to their growth and potential.
Both tracks are dark pieces assisted by the vocal talents of Thomas Gandey although “Voyeur” features Thomas’ vocals as more of a centerpiece than does “Distant Lover”. Thomas not only sings the melody in “Voyeur”, but also provides supporting vocal samples that help create the eerie sound-scape of the track. Bassline heavy, as is the signature of Get Physical at the moment, “Voyeur” competes heavily for the spotlight on this release.
On the B side, “Distant Lover” turns up the grime on the bassline but keeps the mood similarly dark to “Voyeur”, staying in line with the Get Physical sound. Thomas Gandey is more withdrawn in this track, allowing Blond:ish’s production work to take the main focus, but his vocals are what give the track its added edge.
The release as a whole is superb and both tracks offer a special touch for this EP. Thomas Gandey’s vocal work is perfectly complimentary to the dark sound achieved by Blond:ish making both tracks must haves.
