According to a recent wired.com article, Steve Jobs’ Pentagon file reveals some telling secrets about the late tech mogul. In newly revealed classified documents filed in 1988 in the process of applying for security clearance, Jobs confirms fears of blackmail, admits to an arrest, and reports his illicit drug experimentation. Specifically, Jobs explains in some detail his experience with LSD.
“I used LSD from approximately 1972 to 1974. Throughout that period of time I used the LSD approximately ten to fifteen times. I would ingest the LSD on a sugar cube or in a hard form of gelatin. I would usually take the LSD when I was by myself. I have no words to explain the effect the LSD had on me, although, I can say it was a positive life changing experience for me and I am glad I went through that experience.”
Coming from one of the most important innovators of this century, such a description leads one to believe that it may have influenced his ability to contextualize our basic human needs from technology which, in turn, led to the runaway success of his products. If we use Steve Jobs as a case study, the truth of the matter is that expanding your mind may not be such a bad thing after all.
