When UK bass producer Scuba released his album Personality this year it pretty much split his audience down the middle. Some found his new overtly catchy, 90s referencing productions endearing and welcomed the change in tack, whilst others simply thought it unpalatable.
Scuba undoubtedly doesn't care too much about the latter's thoughts on his new direction, and you only need to watch the video for his track NE1BUTU, with its distinctly tacky 90s imagery, to get the impression that he's going about the whole thing with his tongue planted firmly in cheek.
It sort of simultaneously works and doesn't work, though one thing's for sure, it's going to either induce a cringe or a laugh, or both.
