Parisian duo Principles of Geometry take five to pick their five favorite releases from Manchesters pivitol label, Skam records.
"Don't really remember how we came across Skam. Well, It was another time, a time you needed to dig to find new music clues, new horizons , with passion. Not as simple as three mouseclics. A time you have to deserve listening to border music. Spotting music shops in london, or impossible fanzines, for hard to find records. - and maybe a good clue from a (very good) weird mate. Cuz' when you dig as hard, you just exchange with initiate people. We loved Skam - and Rephlex- thanks to their brainistic vision of music, no really need to dance to go into it, just need to have the capacity of braindancing to dive into it. Less sweat. More sweet..... A top 5 of our most influential idm label: a personal & arguable overview of Skam Records"
1. BOARDS OF CANADA: Hi Scores
This is "the" wonderful piece of music from Skam, thanks to those two bros. It's the sound of dusk and dawn in the same record. If you don't understand this, in a way, you don't understand music. Nostalgia.
2. FREEFORM: Free EP
Melodic & destructive. Just what we like in its simple way. Nostalgia part 2
3. BOLA: Gnayse
This is a heady meal painted in "still life" This is a really great record, as often with Bola. We'll be happy to share some Bourgogne with him.
4. TEAM DOYOBI: ORCH V
A troubled groove record. We thought it was made to dance to (and we remain convinced). So we played it often in clubs. But we were the only ones to dance to it. YOU BORES!
5. VHS HEAD: Trademark Ribbons of Gold
Pure rare grooveness ! Old sampled synths multi-detuned brilliantly chopped, crashed voices over seas of pads. As nostalgic as futuristic. we think he's a cyborg.
