With Fatboy Slim bringing the Big Beach Bootique back to Brighton this weekend, we ask Norman to pick five of his favorite all time acid house tracks.
Underworld- Rez.
This tune is so warped the first time I heard it on pete tong I had to pull my car over coz it was destabilising my driving......the riff is like little aliens whispering nice things in your ear while the track builds and builds and then buils some more.....
Hardfloor- Acsperience
Hardfloor were (are?) the masters of a long build and then blissful relief with plenty of wobble along the way. People who want to improve their sexual performance could learn a lot from these guys.
Robert Owens- I'll be your friend
Not sure if this is strictly speaking an acid house tune but it pushes the same tripped out buttons for me. Darren emerson extended the vocal drop for what seemed like hours at a boy's own allnighter at bognor butlins many years ago and blew my mind!
Gorillaz- Dare (dfa edit)
This starts off sounding like the happy mondays and then gradually mutates into the most deranged yet euphoric head fuck. It twists your melons and your frontal lobes.
Bonsai Kat- Bla Bla
Bang up to date 303 madness. Aggressive, snotty and exciting. The rush as the filters crank up makes the hairs stand up on the back of my knuckles....
