James Barton, founder of the worldwide festival behemoth Creamfields, has told an audience of industry luminaries at the IMS that the dance music scene wouldn't exist in North America without David Guetta, reports Mixmag.
"David Guetta gets slammed so many times, [but] there wouldn't be an American electronic scene without him," Barton said.
Barton, who recently sold his Creamfields business to Live Nation for £13.9 million, went on to say that Guetta "opened up America for all of these guys to follow. And now because he's really successful, he gets a bit of stick. I think that's wrong."
Barton's comments echo sentiment recently expressed by David Guetta where he said staying underground would have killed dance music.
What do you think? Should David Guetta be commended as the one who brought dance music to America? Or are there some names who aren't being given credit here? Is Guetta's commercial take on dance music positive for the scene or a hindrance?
