Tsuba Warehouse

Ahead of Tsuba's East London warehouse party next weekend featuring Gerd and Sascha Dive (info and tickets here), we've asked Tsuba stallwarts Spencer Parker, Ethyl and Kevin Griffiths to give us their warehouse favorites.

ETHYL

The best warehouse party you've ever been to (playing or not!) and why? One that stands out for me was the first warehouse party I ever played at. We were in the first space and Steve Bug was playing next door in the main room. The fact it was the first bit you came to when you got into the party combined with the fact that even our bit was quite an impressive area people just assumed it was room one. So even though we were playing quite early at around midnight until two, it was packed and we got a good handful of people come up and ask if either one of us was Steve Bug. It was kicking off so much so they had to shut our room and direct new arrivals straight to the other room to make sure Steve wasn't playing to an empty room.

Your top 3 tracks right now:

Andy Stott: Night Jewel (Modern Love)

This is back in my box after a brief hiatus. I just missed having it there as one of those go to records when the time warrants it. It's dark and twisted and really quite heavy and I love it.

Carter Bros: I didn't Need (Black Catalogue)

First heard this on a podcast from New York's DJ Spider. Crazy, cut up, loopy number but bulky as you like in the low end.

John Daly: Sea Level -  Aerosol Mix (Further)

It's just a stunning piece of music and early mixing out of this one is strictly a no no, it has to be enjoyed until the pads finally subside.

What can we expect from you in 2012?

It's a shame that 2012 heralds the end of this bouncy little ball we live on because I was looking forward to doing all sorts with it. I first off have a couple of remixes to do and then I'm really concentrating on some original material. It only dawned on me recently that I've never put out a solo EP so that's top of the agenda. I'm playing at some great nights but not really touring as such to try and get some output down that I'm really happy with. One weekend I am particularly looking forward to, however, is the Freerotation one. Last year was top banana and I can't wait to play some more records there with Flori and, as importantly, flit around the grounds listening to perhaps the best lineup one can imagine.

SPENCER PARKER

The best warehouse party you've ever been to (playing or not!) and why?

I'd have to say the Secretsundaze event I attended a couple of years back with Patrice Scott as the guest. Great crowd,  great music, courtesy of the aforementioned Mr Scott and the beloved Giles and James, and simply - a great party. Good, original location, good music, good people, and a great soundsystem - exactly the same script Tsuba are sticking to for Feb11th, which is why i'm looking forward to it so much.

Your top 3 tracks right now:

Intruder "Amame" (Radio Slave Remix) Defected Records

HUGE ! All about this mix and the original for me, i'll let the other dj's play the rest...

Unknown: Late at Night  (It's Not Over)

Omar S stuck in a lift with Carl Craig and Caribou- Love it !

Unknown: 9995 (Stablo)

(No clip available)

They're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack !

What can we expect from you in 2012?

New singles on Rekids, Ovum, Cabin Fever and a few more i can't quite mention yet. New remixes for Miss Kittin and Thomas Gandey And more of what I do best, snoring loudly on planes and playing great records to nice people, REALLY LOUD.

KEVIN GRIFFITHS

The best warehouse party you've ever been to (playing or not!) and why?

As co-promoter of issst from 2006-2009 i've promoted and played at my fair share of warehouse parties. A memorable NYE was the issst on an indoor five a side football pitch with jamie jones - its was utter chaos with no distinction between the decks and crowd at all. i remember i had to practically shield jamie from being pushed to the ground by the crowd. Tiefschwarz always delivered, even on crutches as basti schwarz was once, still performing and partying hard until the last record of the night despite having his leg in plaster. I also remember roping spencer in to play the last hour of a party once when i was a bit worse for wear (so was he mind!), leaving him to decipher my terrible handwriting on my CDRs. More good times will roll on 11th Feb!

Your top 3 tracks right now and a line about each please.

(I am slightly biased, but my top 3 tracks are all tsuba's, and not out yet)

Tazz 'Worked It'

A future classic with a strings that sound straight outta detroit!

Mic Newman 'knickerbocker'

Been playing this for a few months now and everytime it has sent the floor nuts

Okain 'o'clock' (Gerd Mix)

Killer remix which has an air of 'palm leaves' about it.

What can we expect from you in 2012?

Got a very busy release schedule with Tsuba - the next Moodtrap ep is out next week & is getting major props from craig richards. Then its Tsuba's first album release from Tazz followed by EP's from mic newman (the next Tsuba colours release) and hector (including a remix from Cassy.....a little bit excited about that. the originals are the best thing hector has done too). Myself and Justin Drake have just finished a new EP so we're just deciding what to do with that. I moved house before xmas so the immediate plan is to finally sort out my record collection so i know where everything is.....i'm sick of buying things again on MP3 'cos i can't find the 12"!
