Rio Music Conference : Top 4 Brazilian DJs

Rio Music Conference : Top 4 Brazilian DJs

As electronic music continues to win over the hearts and minds of people in nearly every corner of the world, it’s probably not surprising that Rio De Janeiro is gearing up to host the fourth edition of its own international music conference. The conference, which will take place from the 14th of February to the 25th, will feature a trade show, workshops, courses and various panels featuring Q and A sessions with some of the industry’s leading minds (Including Jamie Jones and Lee Foss). There will also be a ton of parties featuring a host of talent from around the world.

Brazil, with perhaps the fastest growing economy in the western hemisphere, is understandably chock full of energized local DJs and producers. Pulse Radio asked RMC organizers to spotlight four of their favorite homegrown talents and they selected Leo Janeiro, Dubshape, Fabricio Pecanha and Meme. We asked them all a few questions and their answers are below. Be sure to check out their artist pages as well to find out more about these talented guys.

Leo Janeiro

What is your favorite club in Brazil?
Fabricio Pecanha : Warung
Leo Janeiro: Warung (at my residence)/Dedge/Fosfobox
Meme: PRIVILÈGE (Angra dos reis)
Dubshape: For us its really hard to pick one favorite club here in Brasil. We have been residents at Dedge for the past 5 years and we had quite a lot of memorable moments in there. Dedge has been pushing the dance scene here in Brasil a lot. But recently we had some great gigs at Warung as well. One of our best gigs of 2011 was playing at Warung's Bday party alongside Damian Lazarus and Jamie Jones at Warung's Garden dancefloor. We will never forget the crowd's vibe. So it would be very unfair to pick one only at this moment as these two clubs have been in the forefront of the electronic scene here in Brasil. We love them.

Dubshape

What is your favorite DJ at the moment?
Fabricio Pecanha: Carl Cox
Leo Janeiro: Derrick Carter, Solomun in Brazil: Marky and Mau Mau
Meme: Myself!
Dubshape: Well for all the history, technique etc Dj Marky is pretty much unbeatable. We have been djing for such a long time and have never seen anyone own the dj booth like he has but there is a Dj here in Brasil we are enjoying so much lately. Her name is Aninha. She is a resident at Warung and has pretty much blown us away every single time we've watched her play. For sure, our favorite at the moment.

Fabricio Pecanha

What does Brazil mean to you?
Fabricio Pecanha: Brazil is the hottest place to be now. A young and vibrant country with a strong economy and happy people. Brazilians love to party and as a dj that's all we need!
Leo Janeiro: Brazil is the most beautiful place in the world, with the best looking people around. The vibe is always great, the weather is always sweet and the parties are always awesome!
Meme: Luckily, it's my Hometown. A spot full of seeds that have been planted years ago, but only now we can see the trees. It's the country of the future, and there's nobody to deny it. Beautiful and confident people, good food, economy growing, beautiful places and huge like a giant. Future belongs here.
Dubshape: Brasil is our home. We wouldnt change it for nothing. We love it here. Brasilian people just love to party. But we feel as if overall the dance scene still needs to mature a bit more. We be nice also to see our local talents being a bit more valued.

Meme

What are your thoughts on RMC?
Fabricio Pecanha: Very cool, very organized and a great initiative. These are projects that make the scene grow.
Leo Janeiro: Rio Music Conference is an event with a great initiative, bringing EDM to another level in the country, doing something no one has ever done in Brazil.
Meme: It's one of those seeds. It's growing and growing every year. Some people tried to do this before in South America, and even here in Brazil, but unfortunately they failed. Now we can see the light and enjoy it. It's the event of the year.
Dubshape: RMC is one of the best initiatives we've seen in Brasil lately. They really care about the culture, about music. They are trying hard to add value to the scene. Its hard to make this kind of effort. The scene here has grown so much in the last few years and RMC is helping it grow in the right direction.
